📚 Happy Knowledge Day!

Congratulations to all our followers on the start of the new academic year! We wish all students inspiration, exciting discoveries, and plenty of new ideas. And to those planning to join TLF — successful preparation and good luck at every stage of the selection process!

The academic year for TLF students at H-FARM International School in Italy starts today, while at The Island School in Cyprus, it begins on September 2. For some, it’s a return to a familiar school, while for our new scholars, it’s the beginning of their first school days in a new country.

In the meantime, let’s take a look back at the final days of their summer camp in Paphos 👉🏻

Academic Programme 👇🏻

At the beginning of the week, the participants were joined by Professor Sergey Lando, a member of the TLF Advisory Board. Under his guidance, the younger group explored graphs and invariants, while the older students studied Hurwitz numbers, which connect combinatorial problems with geometry and number theory.

Our guest speaker Dmitry Mineev also shared his expertise with the students. For the younger group, he introduced group theory and its applications to the study of symmetries, while with the older students, he explored the permutahedron — a geometric object related to permutations.

Alongside the lectures, the students continued working on their chosen academic tracks: solving problems, discussing the topics they had covered with their teachers, and completing their projects.

At the same time, we made sure to maintain a balance between the intensive academic programme and relaxation. The students continued their morning swims in the sea, while several evenings turned into small musical gatherings, with students playing the guitar and singing familiar songs together.

One of the highlights of the week was also a movie night. An entire cinema screening room was rented for the students, where they watched «Project Hail Mary» together — a science-fiction film about a space mission to save Earth.

What did TLF students study at the Cyprus Camp?

A typical academic day for the new TLF scholars was split into two parts. In the first half of the day, all students studied mathematics. After lunch, they could choose a track based on their interests and level: Robotics, ML Junior, ML Advanced, or independent problem-solving.

• Mathematics (Math)

This track focused on fundamental mathematical structures, discrete mathematics, group theory, and geometry. Students also explored popular topics in topology and knot theory.

For example, teachers introduced them to Legendrian knots — a special class of knots subject to strict mathematical constraints. Students explored their properties and invariants: characteristics that help distinguish knots even when they may look identical at first glance.

Some of these abstract concepts could even be “touched”: using ordinary rubber bands, students modelled and compared different knotted structures.

• Robotics

Students used Python as their main programming language and also worked with Linux, SSH, Docker, ROS2, and GitHub.

But practice was at the heart of the track. In the real world, code has to deal with imperfect motors, inaccurate sensors, and wheels that do not always follow the exact trajectory.

For their final projects, students built solutions on the Duckietown platform, focusing on real-world challenges relevant to Cyprus:

• Autonomous taxi — follows lanes, stops at intersections, and recognises road signs.
• Waste collector — detects green objects and navigates towards them to clean up the area.
• Cave-exploring robot — autonomously explores “caves”, follows a trail, and turns around when it reaches a dead end.

• Machine Learning (ML)

The ML track was divided into two levels depending on students’ previous experience:

JUNIOR: Mathematical Foundations of Data Science
Students built an algorithmic and mathematical foundation for working with data through problems in discrete mathematics.

Instead of mechanically memorising models, they learned to identify hidden patterns and connections in data, using concepts such as the Pigeonhole Principle and ideas from discrete continuity.

TLF Camp 2026 ⚡️⚡️⚡️

The new academic year is just around the corner — which means our new TLF scholars have gathered for the traditional camp before heading off to their partner schools.

This year, TLF Camp is taking place in Paphos, Cyprus 🇨🇾

Students from different countries are meeting each other, diving into their academic programmes and spending time together.

The first week is already behind us — and we’ve packed it with plenty.

Students worked almost every day across one of three tracks: Mathematics, Machine Learning (Junior / Advanced) and Robotics.

They tackled challenging problems — from knot theory to combinatorial geometry — programmed robots and started building the foundation for their TLF studies throughout the year.

TLF Camp is not just about studying.

During the first week, students explored Paphos, visited the Archaeological Park and Tombs of the Kings, spent a day at a water park and, of course, found plenty of time for swimming in the sea.

Throughout the week, our scholars also met speakers from academia and the tech industry, hearing about their studies, careers and experiences firsthand.

Georgios Charalambous, Mathematics lecturer at AUB Mediterraneo and a University of Cambridge graduate, spoke with students about mathematics, olympiads, academic life and his experience studying at Cambridge.

Another highlight of the week was ICPC Networking — a meeting with participants of a student training camp preparing for the ICPC World Finals.

Among them were students and graduates of Oxford, Cambridge, University of Maryland, MIT, Constructor University and NUP.

They discussed university admissions, academic programmes and student life — giving our scholars the chance to ask questions to people who had only recently gone through the same university choices themselves.

One of the highlights of the week was a visit to JetBrains in Paphos.

The visit included the finals of the chess and table tennis tournaments, with the winners receiving special gifts.

🇨🇾 Cyprus’ First Participation in IOAI — and Medals to Start!

The International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) has come to an end in Astana. Cyprus participated for the first time, with the TLF Foundation supporting one of the country’s two official teams.

🏆 And it was a strong debut indeed.

• The Cyprus team won 4 bronze medals, one of them awarded to our scholar Amir Daiarov from The Island School.

• In addition, team members received 2 Honourable Mentions, one of which went to Artyom Konukhov, also a TLF scholar.

We are especially proud that our scholars had the opportunity not only to test their skills, but also to meet participants from around the world and gain valuable international experience.

👏 Congratulations to Amir, Artyom, and the entire Cyprus team! We wish them many more achievements and continued growth in AI/ML!

Entrepreneurship Camp in Barcelona: the journey begins! 🇪🇸

A milestone day! For the first time, TLF scholars from two partner schools — The Island and H-FARM International School — came together in sunny Barcelona for a technology entrepreneurship camp.

Today was all about introductions and meaningful connections. Over the next two weeks, the students will work together in teams on their projects.

The program opened with an inspiring speech by TLF co-founder Ratmir Timashev! His main messages to the participants 👇🏻

• On change:
«You can always change, you are still young, so you can change what you want to do in life in tomorrow, or in 5 years, or in 10 years. You can start as a scientist and end up as a business entrepreneur like myself. I started as a scientist and ended up as an entrepreneur».

• On creating a successful product:
«I am frequently being asked, what does it take to create a successful technology company? And I always say it’s a very simple thing. It’s being at the right time, at the right place, and creating a brilliant product».

• On teamwork:
«It’s going to be cool, but I’m looking forward for you to build the teams, because that’s also part of building the great product, is having the teammates embrace you. Because the ideas, they come during the debates. So, a very interesting programme. I wish you the best, build the team, and win in this competition, and try to raise money.
So good luck in the next two weeks».

Merit Award in Singapore: TLF Scholars at SIMC 2026! 🇸🇬🏆

While most competitions focus on speed, SIMC (Singapore International Mathematical and Computational Modelling Challenge) at the National University of Singapore is a test of endurance and depth. Our scholars from H-FARM International School — Arsenii Patutin, Lev Bernshteyn, and Maxim Chzhan-Vin-Zin, supported by their teacher Mr. Roman Gusarev — recently returned from Singapore with a Merit Award! 📈

• The 36-Hour Challenge:
SIMC isn’t typical CS contest. The team received a massive task with complex sub-points and had exactly 36 hours to develop a computational model, write a professional solution report, and prepare an oral defense for a Q&A session with the jury.

“The challenge and its format are different from what we usually expect from CS competitions, but right there, it was the main point. We were amazed by the precise organization, working spaces in the school, and the support from everybody. A lot of different connections were made with people from all around the world, who are also ambitious, friendly and very clever,” says Arsenii.

TLF Exams: A Milestone Moment ✍️

It’s a busy and intense period for our DP1 scholarship students — they are currently taking their Final Exams.

The TLF academic program includes two major assessment stages:
• Mid-term Exams — intermediate exams that our students successfully completed in February
• Final Exams — the final assessments taking place now.

We evaluate students’ progress in three key subjects: mathematics, physics, and computer science. These exams help teachers see the real outcome of the academic year: what students have learned and how effectively they have mastered a challenging curriculum.

In addition, the exam results may be considered when awarding university scholarships. As a reminder, our list includes 30 of the world’s leading universities, and students admitted to them may receive scholarships from the TLF Foundation.
