Meet them where they are!
17/05/2023
So many educators need to know this!
When we talk about arousal, we mean how alert we are. What is it that we need in order to sustain our attention and perform at out best. We are all different in what it takes to keep our arousal at the best level. Some people can’t cope with any noise while they are trying to think, while others need to have music on constantly. Meeting our arousal needs depend on how we process our sensory information. The important thing to remember is that some people will need more of these sensory inputs to be at the optimum state of arousal and some will need less. We are then able to to “self-regulate” by getting our arousal levels right even when our environment changes. Self-regulating all of the sensory information can be very difficult for a child. When we work out what their sensory needs are we can help support them to meet their best arousal.

🥰
Hugs, midnight cuddles and comforting have no expiry date.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Breastfeed to sleep and through the night if it works for you mama (it did for me!).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lay with your 5 or 8 or 12-year-old as they fall asleep if they need you to (or if you want to!).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hold them close.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Forget the milestones and accept the as is of the present moment, the reality of very slow pace of healthy child development. Don't judge or second guess.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Flow, don't resist.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Snuggle with your toddler. Hug your teen. Let them be little. Let yourself fall deeply in love with this new soul who shares your life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Affection and loving touch cannot "spoil" your child - it is the opposite that's true!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We covet independence as a culture, yet we don't fully understand it. If we did, we wouldn't push our children away. We would have a deep knowing that as my friend .vanessalapointe says, “It is out of the gift of deep dependence that true independence emerges."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So cuddle those babies, hold your children and when they're ready to start taking steps away, they will.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Couldn’t love these words from more 🙏

The benefits of music 🎵🎶🎵
WHY MUSIC IS SO GOOD FOR THE BRAIN AND LEARNING DEVELOPMENT
Music is a very important part of a child's learning development, not only for auditory, but for speech, language, vocabulary and much more.

Who else if not parents?
None of us will get it right all the time; all that matters is that we keep trying. 🧡
