The original name of the festival consists of čahāršanbe (چهارشنبه Pers. "Wednesday") and suri (سوری Pers. "scarlet"), which may also mean festive itself. Same ritual "Axır Çərşənbə" in Azerbaijani (also in Ardabil and Tabriz) which stems from the reddish theme of fire. The importance of fire is evident in the stone inscriptions of the Achaemenid kings, and the very first mantra of the Rig Veda is in praise of fire. Jumping over the fire, the Zoroastrian origin share roots in ancient A***n religions.
