Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School

Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School is located in the beautiful new suburb of Zuccoli in Palmerston Why “Mother Teresa”? Enrolments being taken now!

ABS Research in the Palmerston area showed a very high percentage of Catholic families were buying, building and moving in in recent years. This data prompted the then Minister of Education, Peter Chandler, to ask the Director of Catholic Education in the NT, Michael Avery, to set up a second Catholic Primary School. Due to unprecedented urban growth in the southern suburbs of Palmerston and local

demand, the Catholic Education Office and the NT Government started formal talks. In 2017 a 3.25 hectare site was allocated to the NT government and the developer Urbex. Rossi Architects, Bennett Design and Walter Brooke & Associates were engaged to design a state of the art school for the people of Palmerston and surrounding areas. Mother Teresa visited the Northern Territory five times between 1973 and 1985. This contemporary pro active saint is still very much a part of the present story of our modern Catholic Church. Bishop Hurley said “after much deliberation and reflection the name "Mother" rather than her title of Saint, was chosen for this school as we are reminded of our role in nurturing the young people in our care.”

April 2017 turning the first sod
Bishop Eugene Hurley and two sisters from the Missionaries of Charity turned the first sod and handed the site over to Halikos Constructions. A dedicated team of builders and staff at Catholic Education Office has kept this project on budget and on time to open for the 31st January 2018, a record short time frame for a school of this size and complexity. The NT Government's Education Minister the Hon. Eva Lawler, visiting the site in September, said "this school shows the strong belief our Government and the people of the territory have in growth. I am impressed with the efficiency of the CEO. To bring a school from planning to students arriving for school in under one year is a feat of special teamwork". The school will open for students on the 31st January 2018. Early Learning Centre, Transition, Years 1 and 2.
