What a wonderful day our Prep/1 and Year 1/2 students had exploring the Historic Village in Herberton! 🏫✨

The children loved stepping back in time and discovering what life was like in the past. The old schoolroom was an especially big hit—they had lots of fun imagining what it would have been like to attend school there many years ago!

A fantastic day filled with excitement, curiosity and hands-on learning. 💛

Lockdown Drill – Practising to Keep Our School Safe

Today, Yungaburra State School conducted a lockdown drill as part of our regular emergency preparedness procedures.

Students and staff did a fantastic job following instructions calmly, quietly and safely. These drills give everyone an opportunity to practise what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency and help ensure our procedures are familiar and understood.

A big thank you to our students and staff for approaching the drill so sensibly. 💙

Last Thursday the Year 2/3 class headed out on foot for their excursion. They walked through the village, along Petersen's Creek and met Katie from the Art Garage at Frawley's Pool. Katie led the students in a sketching and soft oil pastel activity. Turtles, lizards and bird life were spotted and a few reported seeing a glimpse of a platypus! The students thoroughly enjoyed being out in nature and learning some art skills.

📚✨ Just a small taste of the Book Week fun at Yungaburra today! Our school was bursting with colourful characters, creative costumes and plenty of bookish magic. We loved seeing some of our favourite stories come to life! 📖🪄

Year 4 had an unforgettable day of adventure, learning and fun on our HASS excursion! 🌏♻️

A huge thank you to Gary, Anthony and David from TRC for teaching us so much about waste management and recycling at Yungaburra Transfer Station and Wastewater Treatment Plant, and thank you again to our wonderful volunteer, Mrs Tierney.

We are incredibly grateful to “the doctor-nurse team”—Dr Digby and Anne Hoyal—for sharing the inspiring story behind the Lalli's Op shop. We learned how the sight of a little boy in Nepal, without parents, a home or food, eating from a rubbish tip inspired the journey that led to the beginning of the Yungaburra Op Shop. The amazing Lalli’s Op Shop volunteers also discussed the importance of reusing, recycling and upcycling, and we even got to choose some presents to take back to our classroom!

Thank you to the fabulous Meagan from Le Papillon Collections for a fantastic and imaginative vintage fashion show, helping us explore the impact of fast fashion on landfill and the value of clothing that stands the test of time.

What a memorable day of learning, inspiration and community connection! We’re sure our Year 4s slept very well after it!
