Christmas is just around the corner and I am loving all of the beautiful decorations we see in each town we visit.
The Grounds has been on my bucket list for a long time and it was wonderful that we were able to be there in time to see their Christmas laneways.

M.I.A! These photos give a little sneak peek into what we have been up to lately.

Thank you to all of these lovely people who have messaged me asking to purchase my activity books.

Over the last 4 months my family have been travelling around Australia. We are still out exploring this beautiful country and so I cannot take any orders at the moment but I have many wonderful local retail stores who stock my activity books and many of them deliver!

Did you know there are over one million camels roaming the desert around Uluṟu?

Camels have three stomachs.
Camels have three eyelids and camels are very intelligent. They have the IQ equivalent to an eight year old.

We loved learning all about these amazing creatures

My son and I loved the Aṉangu Cultural Workshop. I have learnt so much and I now have millions of ideas swimming through my mind that I can’t wait to share with my own students.

Facts and Opinions

I have two sons who don’t like to write. One in particular often refuses to write in school. After a few weeks on the road they are both more willing to write. All of their writing tasks are in a response to something we have done or learnt that week.

The writing task for today was identifying the difference between fact and opinion. The boys had to write a few facts about Coober Pedy and then write one opinion.

Both boys have the same task, my eldest just writes more complex sentences.

I love that unlike in school the boys can have as much time as they need to think and complete a task, something you just can’t do in a traditional school. It also helps that we complete schooling tasks in the morning meaning I have a lot of bribing power!

Our family road trip has begun and one of our first stops was the Naracoorte Caves.
We all loved this experience and chose to visit the Victoria Cave after friends had recommended it.
The tour was interactive and we all learnt a lot about the cave system and the megafauna that once lived here.

There is also a wonderful nature playground here that your children will love.
We only visited one cave but there are many more to see and I know we will be back to check the other caves out again one day.

🍁Autumn Leaves 🍁

This was one of those activities that worked out better than I expected!

The colours of these leaves are beautiful and I feel it worked better because I decided to leave out the brown paint.

This activity was completed by little 5 & 6 year olds. We discussed the colours you see at autumn, had fun cutting up and examining leaves I had collected and then we started painting.

Students chose a leaf, placed this leaf onto the paper and then used a sponge to apply the paint all over the paper. When the paper was covered they carefully pulled their leaf off the page.

Some students chose to sponge paint onto their leaf and then use this to print their design onto the paper.

A fun, simple, hands on activity your children will love.

Welcome to the Jungle

Last year I was in Sydney when I came across the most brilliant Gorilla mural by .

I knew I had to introduce my students to his work. Inspired by the mural I saw, students created their own gorillas.

Imaginative, cool art pieces with a whole lot of personality. These pieces are currently brightening up our school.

If you have never checked out Mulga’s work, please do. It’s a lot of fun.

The Icky Sticky Anteater is a children’s book by Dawn Bentley.

After reading the story we made our own anteaters. The children had to use at least two colours to paint their anteater with. They then used Colour Slicks to draw on a long, wiggly tongue.
To finish off this picture, students used their fingers to print on little bugs and ants onto the tongue of their anteater.

This activity was for 5 & 6 year olds. Through this activity they were learning to:
- Develop their fine motor skills,
- Name and recognise colours,
- Problem solve and create new designs if things don’t go as they planned.

A fun, interactive book response for children.
