Should you wish to bring a concern to the school's attention, this should be done by contacting the school directly to ensure we are able to deal with this matter in a timely and appropriate manner.

4. The school will not respond directly to requests or messages on Facebook, however, may clarify queries or comments. If you need to contact the school, please speak to your child's teacher or call us directly on 9641 0410.

5. You may use names in posts when you wish to acknowledge someone's great work or contribution. We wish our page to be used to build upon our positive culture and for 'patting someone on the back' publicly as we believe it goes a long way towards promoting a positive school and community.

📈🌟 Celebrating Success. Celebrating Improvement. Celebrating Our Students. 🌟📈

We are incredibly proud to share our 2026 NAPLAN results, which demonstrate strong achievement and significant improvement across Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 at York District High School.

There is plenty for our whole community to celebrate. Our Year 5 students achieved above Like Schools in four of the five NAPLAN areas, while our Year 7 Reading result was 23 points above Like Schools and almost equal to the WA Public Schools average.

Our Year 9 results are particularly outstanding. Students achieved above Like Schools in four of five areas, including Reading, Numeracy, Writing and Grammar & Punctuation. Even more significantly, our Year 9 students achieved above the WA Public Schools average in Reading, Numeracy and Grammar & Punctuation. These are excellent outcomes for our students as they approach their senior secondary pathways.

The story is not only one of achievement—it is also one of Improvement. From 2025 to 2026, we recorded substantial gains across many areas, including Year 5 Reading (+42 points), Year 7 Reading (+38), Year 9 Numeracy (+46), and an exceptional +48 points in Year 9 Grammar & Punctuation.

These results reflect years of collective work: high expectations, increasingly consistent High Impact Teaching, targeted support, a positive learning environment and a belief that every student can make progress.

Most importantly, these results belong to our students. They represent thousands of lessons, moments of perseverance, feedback acted upon and young people continuing to challenge themselves to improve.

To our students, staff and families—congratulations and thank you. Your effort, care and partnership continue to make a difference.

This is Success. This is Improvement. And it has been achieved together as a Community. 💙💛

🏕️🚣 Success and Improvement in Action – Year 9/10 Camp! 🚴🧗

Last week, our Year 9 and 10 students headed to Geraldton for the ESCC Camp—returning with plenty of stories, new experiences and, most importantly, a real sense of what they are capable of achieving.

Across a packed week of rafting, kayaking, cycling, archery, laser tag, bouldering and countless other challenges, students were continually encouraged to step outside their comfort zones. For many, that meant pushing beyond their usual physical, social or emotional boundaries.

What impressed us most was how they responded.

Students consistently demonstrated our ROCKY values, particularly Courage. They showed determination when activities became difficult, supported one another through challenges and kept going when the easier option might have been to stop.

That is what Improvement looks like. Not simply being better at something than you were yesterday, but developing the confidence and resilience to attempt something you weren't sure you could do.

And every challenge overcome was its own form of Success. 🌟

Experiences like these are an important part of education at York DHS. They give our students opportunities to discover strengths, build independence, strengthen relationships and create memories that will remain with them long after they leave school.

A huge thank you to Ms Read for the extraordinary planning, coordination and commitment that made the camp possible, and to Ms Ashworth, Mr Wilkins, Ms Shields and Mr Gregory for the care, encouragement and energy they provided throughout the week.

Most importantly, congratulations to our Year 9 and 10 students. We were incredibly proud of the way you represented yourselves, your families and York DHS. 💙💛

📚🎶 Book Week | A Symphony of Stories at York DHS! 🎶📚

Last week, York DHS came alive with characters, creativity and a wonderful enthusiasm for reading as our whole school celebrated this year’s Book Week theme, A Symphony of Stories.

And what a symphony it was! From our youngest students through to Secondary, different stories, characters and imaginations came together for a celebration that seems to get bigger and better every year.

The highlight was undoubtedly our Book Week Character Parade, with an outstanding effort from students and staff and fantastic support from families and our wider community. A special thank you to Nin from Paint York REaD, who joined us as our community judge and helped make the parade even more memorable.

One of the most exciting parts of Book Week at York DHS has been watching it grow. What began predominantly with our Early Childhood students, expanded into Middle and Upper Primary, and has now become a genuine K–10 whole-school extravaganza. Each year level adds its own voice to our Symphony of Stories, reinforcing that a love of books and reading belongs to everyone.

A huge thank you to our wonderful Library staff, and especially Mrs Vincent, whose dedication, creativity and enthusiasm continue to strengthen our reading culture. Their work extends well beyond Book Week—connecting students with books, encouraging reading for enjoyment and helping stories find their way into the hands of our young people.

Thank you also to every staff member, parent, carer and community member who contributed costumes, time, creativity and enthusiasm throughout the week. Together, you helped bring our Symphony of Stories to life. 🎼📖

📚✨ Book Week is officially underway at York DHS! ✨📚

What a fantastic way to open our Book Week celebrations with this morning’s Book Week Character Dress-Up Parade!

From much-loved classics to new favourites, our students and staff brought an incredible collection of characters from the pages of their favourite books to life. Judging by this morning’s parade, Book Week at York DHS just keeps getting bigger and better every year!

While the costumes, creativity and excitement make the parade a highlight of the school calendar, Book Week is ultimately about something even more important — celebrating the joy and love of reading. Books build imagination, curiosity, knowledge and empathy, and developing confident, enthusiastic readers remains fundamental to student success across every area of learning.

A huge thank you to all of the staff, parents, carers and community members who put so much time and effort into costumes, activities and celebrations. Your support helps us bring our love of books and reading to life for our students.

And, of course, congratulations to all of our students (and staff!) who showed the courage to step into character this morning — the creativity was outstanding!

🔬⚡ Science in Action at York DHS! ⚡🔬

At York District High School, success in Science is about more than learning scientific concepts — it is about giving students opportunities to investigate, experiment, ask questions and apply their learning to the real world.

Under the guidance of Ms Read, our students continue to benefit from an engaging Science and STEM program that combines strong classroom learning with experiences extending well beyond the laboratory.

Our students have accessed opportunities including:

🐖 Pigs in School – connecting agricultural science with industry through collaboration with Cunderdin Ag College and the industry.

🏥 P.A.R.T.Y. – Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth – helping students understand the science and real-world consequences associated with risk, decision-making and trauma.

🧪 Engaging practical Science – bringing curriculum concepts to life through experimentation, investigation and hands-on learning.

And sometimes Science is simply electrifying! ⚡ The photos show students experimenting with a Van de Graaff generator, providing a memorable hands-on opportunity to explore static electricity and see scientific concepts come to life.

These experiences reflect our commitment to Success and Improvement through high-quality teaching and creating opportunities for students to discover where Science and STEM might take them in the future.

A huge thank you to Ms Read for her enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to providing our students with meaningful learning opportunities and connections beyond the classroom.

Who knows? We may be looking at York's future scientists, engineers, health professionals or agricultural innovators! 🔬🌱⚙️

🏆 Celebrating Excellence at York District High School🏆

We are incredibly proud to share that York District High School has received two nominations in the 2026 Education WA Awards:

These nominations are significant recognition of the work happening across our school. They reflect our commitment to high expectations for every student, excellence in teaching and learning, collective leadership, safe and supportive learning environments, strong community partnerships, and creating opportunities for every learner to succeed.

We are particularly proud to celebrate Grace Roden, whose nomination for Minister’s Teacher of the Year recognises the knowledge, dedication and impact she brings to her students, colleagues and our wider school community.

Our nomination for Excellence in School Leadership belongs to our whole school. It recognises a culture where leadership is shared, staff are empowered to contribute, and our collective focus remains firmly on improving outcomes for students.

Most importantly, these nominations recognise the combined efforts of our students, staff, families and community partners who continue to contribute to the success and improvement of York DHS.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Faction Athletics Carnival – What a Day! 🏆

Yesterday’s Faction Athletics Carnival was a fantastic celebration of sport, teamwork and school spirit at York DHS!

Across the track and field events, we saw outstanding individual and team performances, with students challenging themselves, supporting their teammates and competing with determination. Just as importantly, the faction sportsmanship displayed throughout the day was exceptional, with our students consistently demonstrating our ROCKY values – Respect, Owning our Behaviour, Courage and Kindness.

Events like our Athletics Carnival are about much more than results. They provide opportunities for students to show courage by having a go, strive for personal improvement, celebrate the success of others and contribute to something bigger than themselves.

A huge thank you and congratulations to our HPE team, Mr Baker and Ms Shields, for the tremendous work that went into coordinating such a successful carnival. We also thank all of our supporting staff, families and community members who volunteered, encouraged our competitors and helped make the day possible.

🖤💛❤️ Celebrating NAIDOC Week at York District High School ❤️💛🖤

This week, our school community proudly came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week, recognising 50 Years of NAIDOC and honouring the rich cultures, histories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our celebrations began with a meaningful Opening Assembly featuring a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony, inspiring performances from our Moorditj Koolangahs, and the opportunity to welcome special guests as we officially launched the week.

Throughout the week, students will participate in a range of hands-on cultural experiences, including watercolour art, wood slice art, boomerang activities, salt dough necklace making and storytelling. Students also enjoyed Damper Day and conclude the celebrations with a whole-school BBQ, bringing everyone together to celebrate community, culture and connection.

These experiences provide valuable opportunities for our students to learn, listen and deepen their understanding of the world's oldest continuing culture—strengthening the respect, curiosity and sense of belonging that are central to our school community.

A heartfelt thank you to our AIEO, Mrs Bateman, and Mrs Billett for their outstanding leadership, coordination and passion in bringing this year's celebrations to life. We also extend our thanks to Mr Manning, the Culture Class, our Moorditj Koolangahs, staff, special guests and everyone who contributed to making the week such a meaningful success.
