We had a fantastic day of hands-on learning with Kai, Zoe and Tegan from the Narrap Rangers!

Our students got stuck into making a Yedabila Habitat Pod - a special habitat structure that can be placed in waterways to provide shelter for fish and other aquatic creatures. And it’s not just the fish that benefit! Similar habitats can provide homes and shelter for birds and plenty of other local wildlife too. 🐟🦆

The students also made seed balls, which will be dispersed at Spadonis Reserve. Once the rain does its thing and the seed balls break down, the seeds can take root and grow into plants, creating more food and shelter for our local creatures. 🌧️🌱

Kai also shared some fascinating knowledge about bush tucker and native plants traditionally used for medicine, giving everyone a great insight into the incredible resources found right here in our local environment.

A wonderful day of getting our hands dirty, learning about Country and discovering how we can help look after the world around us. 💚

A huge thank you to Kai, Zoe and Tegan for such a fun and memorable experience!

🌍🏅 Yering Commonwealth Games 🏅🌍

Last Friday we had an incredible day of teamwork, creativity and competition!

Our students formed their own countries - designing names, flags and uniforms - before going head to head in a mini Commonwealth Games featuring equestrian, sprints, basketball, hockey and shot put.

With a fantastic opening ceremony and a proud closing ceremony with medals, the spirit on display was outstanding. Every student competed with fairness and respect - something we’re incredibly proud of

A huge shoutout to Auzra and Cooroombah, so close to the podium and a brilliant effort!

❄️ Snow much fun at Lake Mountain! ❄️

Last Friday our little legends hit the slopes for a day packed with tobogganing thrills, epic snowball “discussions” 😄, snow angels in full flight, and some seriously impressive snowmen creations.

It was a day full of laughs, rosy cheeks and unforgettable memories — and wow, did they look sharp in their snow gear!

Our recent excursion to Mont De Lancey, linked to our History unit, was a fantastic success!

Students experienced:

* Blacksmith demonstrations
* Woodturning
* Bell ringing
* Visits to the chapel and homestead
* An old-style school experience
* Craft activities like peg dolls and lavender bags
* Traditional games

It was a brilliant day, and the kids absolutely loved it!

We also enjoyed a visit from Yarra Glen Pre-School, giving our students a great opportunity to connect with younger learners.

To top it off, we had a wonderful Yering Billabong planting day, where students planted 500 plants—an amazing effort supporting our local environment 🌱

It’s been a busy and exciting time of learning and experiences for our students!

We held our Yering ANZAC service alongside the Lilydale RSL, with our students leading and presenting the service with great respect.

Our Grade 3–6 students also participated in Athletics with other local schools, showing fantastic effort and sportsmanship.

We were lucky to take part in a cultural session with Kai, where students created and shared their own Dreamtime stories, listened to traditional stories, and identified Kai’s drawings in the sandpit.

In the classroom, our Grade 3–6 students have been exploring science through hands-on learning with magnets.

Yering Primary School proudly recognised its student leaders as our School Captains were presented with their official badges by local Member for Evelyn, Bridget Vallence MP. It was a special moment for our captains, marking the beginning of their leadership journey and the important role they play within our school community. We thank Ms Vallence for taking the time to support and celebrate our students on this memorable occasion.

We are incredibly proud of Cara for once again representing our school at the Yarra Glen ANZAC Day service.

For the past couple of years, Cara has taken part in this special occasion with great respect and maturity—marching first as a Girl Guide, before speaking and laying a wreath on behalf of our school community.

This year was particularly meaningful, as Cara read a letter written by her great, great grandfather.

Thank you, Cara, for representing our school with such pride and honour. Lest we forget.

Term 2 has just commenced, so what a great time to reflect on a huge and exciting Term 1 at Yering!

We kicked things off with our kayaking adventures—usually at Lilydale Lake—but this time we mixed it up and hit the Yarra River instead! 🛶 What an experience!

Back at school, our class pets kept everyone entertained, with plenty of time spent observing and playing with our fascinating stick insects 🐜

We also loved welcoming the Yarra Glen Early Learning Centre to our school—such a great opportunity to connect and share the fun with our future students 😊

Our students got hands-on with technology through Inspire Robotics 🤖
• Grades 3–6 were busy programming watches
• Prep–Grade 2 students had a blast coding bins that actually open!

Out in the environment, we visited Spadonis Reserve to take plant cuttings, then brought them back to school to plant—learning all about sustainability along the way 🌱

And in STEAM, the big question was… after the fall, did the egg survive the parachute drop? 🥚🪂 Some did, some didn’t—but we learned a lot either way!

What a term full of learning, laughter, and new experiences.
