Phil Henry, Chair of the CQUniversity Village Festival Board, was thrilled to receive a cheque for $500 from Greg Wilson, President of Rotary on Capricorn Coast, at their weekly meeting today.

The Rotary group managed the ticketing, food, drink and logistics for the Festival’s Blues, Burgers, Beer and Bubbles night at Yeppoon Town Hall on 7 August. As the evening’s revenue surpassed estimates, Rotary on the Capricorn Coast very kindly resolved to return some of the takings to the Festival. The remaining profits will go towards the group’s priority project, the Mulumbin Beach Park Project.

Music on the night was provided by a selection of members of the Keppel Coast Blues and Music Clubb, with two stages operating to enable non-stop music and maximum opportunities to play. The event was live streamed by Aaron Symonds of A2Z Live Entertainment!

The Ready Reading Program

The Ready Reading program aims to improve literacy for children in Queensland through training parents and community members to support children’s reading.

Volunteering Queensland and the Queensland Government Department of Education are working in partnership to recruit and train up to 3,000 mums, dads, carers and members of the community to share their knowledge and time to foster a love of reading in Queensland school classrooms.

Reading is a powerful tool to help children grow their vocabulary, language skills and imagination. It helps children to develop life-long skills that will support their future growth and learning.

Ready Reading volunteers will be connected to schools in their local area to participate in the school’s reading programs.

As a Ready Reading volunteer, Queenslanders will have the opportunity to make a difference in their local community by supporting children’s reading.

The program will provide training to ensure volunteers are supported in their endeavours to help our students to grow and develop through reading. Ready Reading volunteers will be connected to schools in their local area to participate in their reading programs.
