Last week, Yeppoon State School was delighted to welcome students from Wako Kokusai High School for a special day of cultural exchange. Our students enjoyed practising their Japanese, participating in cultural activities and learning more about life in Japan. It was wonderful to see new friendships forming and students confidently using their language skills. Arigatou gozaimasu to our visitors for sharing this memorable day with us!

2/3A and 3M have been immersed in the Ancient Egyptian mummification process as part of their Design Technology unit. They have been wrapping their mummies in layers of ‘linen’ and carefully tucking charms and amulets between the layers. Students have also begun thinking like designers, inspecting miniature and life-sized sarcophagus examples to analyse design choices and make informed decisions as they plan their own sarcophagus designs. Look at us at work!

Most of the students at YSS come to school every day and exhibit our expectation of being a Safe, Respectful Learner. It is very important that our students know how much we value them. When you are safe and respectful it simply follows that you are a learner and you allow others to learn also. The Principal's Expectation Award is a new award this Semester and it is designed to recognise just how outstanding the students at YSS are. Last week on parade- out of many, many nominations Alby and Gianni were chosen to receive the award. They also earned themselves a $5 tuckshop voucher. Well done to these amazing students!

Attendance is important at YSS and we are always striving to have as many students as possible at school. At parade we celebrated having 3 classes over 90% attendance for Weeks 5 & 6 with the top class attendance percentage being...a tie! 3M and Prep H both had 92.9% attendance. Amazing effort, Prep H and 3M- double the greatness!

A huge congratulations to Edward and Laura who have qualified for the State Athletics Trials. In an outstanding effort from both students, they achieved the following:

Laura:
1st- 100m, long jump and tetra
2nd- 200m

Edward-
1st- 100m, 200m, long jump and tetra

This means that Edward came first in every event he was in and Laura came first in all but the 200m where she came second. We can't wait to hear how you perform at the State Trials and whatever happens you have already done yourselves and the school extremely proud- well done!
