This Friday, students and staff will be enjoying Footy Colours Day in support of Year 12 student Ebony and her horse Diesel, who will be competing on behalf of Yea High School in the Australian Interschool Championships during the school holidays. We hope to raise money to assist Ebony and Diesel with some of the costs associated with competing. A big shout-out to Dindi Ag for coming on board with horse feed for Diesel. For anyone else wishing to support Ebony and Diesel, please feel free to contact the school office on 57972207.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS.

Hi Yea High School,

I’m Emma from ABC Heywire, a national storytelling competition for young people aged 16–22 living in regional, rural and remote Australia.

Entries close 1 September, and we’ve seen very few submissions from your region so far. That means local young people have a strong opportunity to be noticed if they enter.

We’re looking for honest stories about real experiences. No need to be a polished writer, we are not looking for that – just a story worth telling.

Winners receive:
• Their story produced and featured by the ABC
• An all-expenses-paid trip to the Heywire Regional Youth Innovation Summit in Canberra
• The opportunity to help shape positive change in their community

We’d love your help spreading the word and encouraging young people to enter before the deadline.

Find out more and enter: https://www.abc.net.au/heywire/competition

Thanks,
Emma

ABC Heywire is young regional Australians telling it like it is, and making a difference.

Mr Treloar’s music students were fortunate to be involved in a music workshop with Sarah Belkner recently.

A note from Sarah…
A huge hello and welcome to all my new friends from Yea, Alexandra and others I met over the weekend!

What a huge honour it was to come down your way and be the Murrindindi artist in residence where I got to stay at the wonderful Yea butter factory.

On the Friday I visited and worked with a beautiful bunch of students from Yea High School and on the Saturday we did a general free vocal workshop and the most wonderful bunch of people attended. Hi everyone!

Local great musicians made an awesome band and we rehearsed some excellent covers and my own tunes (including Sledgehammer yee ha!) and then put it all together for a show that night at the Alex Shire Town Hall. Some of the students and people from the vocal workshops came and it turned out to be an amazing and special concert full of heart and song.

The kids were quite emotional after they sang and I was so proud of them. It was really magical to see them sink into an opportunity to perform and connect.

Thanks to Vikki & Adam and all at Yea Arts for having me and making this possible.

Getting to connect and share via the language of music is one of the most precious things on this planet.

Sarah xx

Learning about business and enjoying chocolate 🥰

We were really lucky to have Laura Wilson (CEO) talk to us about the business and how they make decisions on what to sell and the qualifications required to work at the Chocolaterie. Thereafter, Alyssa talked us through the different products and we got to taste them. (Dark chocolate coated coffee beans were DJ’s favourite!)
We made our chocolate lollies and left them to set while we enjoyed our complimentary ice cream!

We also had some time to shop, have lunch or wander the grounds before boarding the bus to head back to school.
