🌞 Warmer Weather, Sunscreen & Hat Reminders 🌞
As the weather continues to warm up, we would like to share a few reminders to help keep our children comfortable, prepared and sun safe throughout the day.
👕 Multiple Changes of Clothing
With warmer weather comes lots of wonderful sensory and outdoor learning opportunities! We encourage families to pack multiple changes of clothing each day. This allows us to easily support children when engaging in sensory play, water play and other messy experiences, as well as accommodating toileting accidents or unexpected spills.
As we spend more time outdoors, we also recommend that children wear comfortable, sun-safe clothing that provides adequate coverage. Singlets, spaghetti-strap tops and spaghetti-strap style dresses are not recommended, as they provide limited sun protection and can make it more difficult for us to maintain appropriate sun-safe practices throughout the day. Lightweight clothing with broader straps and good shoulder coverage is a great option for keeping children cool while still providing protection.
We also highly recommend that all clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name. Our lost property collection seems to be growing by the day, and labelled clothing makes it much easier for us to return those much-loved items to their owners!
🧴 Sunscreen Policy
As we move into Term 4, we are also implementing our sunscreen policy. Over the coming days, educators will begin applying sunscreen to all children as part of our daily sun-safe practices.
If your child has specific or sensitive sunscreen requirements, please speak with an educator and let us know as soon as possible, and ensure any required sunscreen is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
🧢 Hat Policy
Our hat policy will also be implemented as we head into the warmer months. Our Toddler 2 space has already begun facilitating this routine, supporting children to develop independence and an understanding of sun safety.
We see this as a wonderful opportunity for children to develop a strong sense of identity, independence and responsibility, while building an understanding of healthy sun-safe practices. This also supports our policies and procedures here at Goodstart Yarrawonga.
We kindly ask families to encourage children to return their hat to their individual hat pocket at the end of each day. This helps ensure their hat is ready and waiting for them when they return the following day.
Thank you, as always, for your support in helping us keep our children comfortable, independent, protected and ready to learn! 🌞
