Yarraville Community Centre provides a diverse range of educational, disability, recreational and arts based programs and childcare in response to identified community needs. COMMUNITY USE RULES

• Comments which are irrelevant to the original post. We reserve the right to remove comments that include any of the above, and will remove or ban any user who:
• continues to post comments such as those listed above
• uses offensive images as their profile picture
• has an offensive user name

One of our favourite days of the month is when Chatty Café comes around. It's another opportunity for community members to come together, enjoy a warm morning tea, share a cuppa, and spend time chatting in the relaxed and friendly setting of YCC. Our next Chatty Cafe will be on next Wednesday 17th September, 10.30am-12pm.

Whether you're a carer, a local community member, or simply looking for a new way to meet people, YCC’s Chatty Café offers an easy-going, casual and welcoming setting where everyone is welcome. Come along and enjoy friendly conversation, make new connections, and start your day with good company.

With less than a week and a half until the school holidays begin, YCC has two epic days of fun lined up for the kids! YCC's programs run in small groups, so spots are limited. Be quick, these sessions always book out fast!

The program includes getting hands-on in the kitchen, making delicious dumplings, steamed filled bao buns, and a refreshing mango sorbet with fruits and jellies. Day two brings a high-energy dance session, a colourful tie-dye activity to create unique take-home masterpieces, and an afternoon session in the kitchen making layered fruit parfaits….yum!

Spring has arrived and so have next weekend's workshops!

Yarraville Community Centre’s cooking classes are proving popular as always, with 2 workshops already completely booked out for next weekend. There are still 3 spots left in the last cooking class on the Saturday, making traditional Ang Ku Keuh, or widely known as red tortoise cake!

Plus, we've got colourful tie dye workshops for adults and kids, watercolour art classes, or slow down and see the world differently in our slow photography workshop. Where you'll deepen your connection with the present moment and bring a more mindful approach to your photography.

Happy Father’s Day to all the remarkable dads and father figures who make a difference every day. Whether you're a father, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, mentor, or a trusted source of support and guidance, today is a celebration of you and the positive impact you have on those around you.

The children within YCC’s childcare were busy preparing something extra special for the important father figures in their lives. Using painted handprints, they created heartfelt artworks filled with love and personality. A lasting reminder of tiny hands and the special bond shared with dads and loved ones.

YCC's Certificate II SEE (Skills for Education and Employment) students recently visited the Yakult Factory in Dandenong, and no visit would be complete without sampling the famous little bottle first! Students were fortunate to taste the iconic drink before setting off on a guided tour to learn more about the people, processes, and production behind it.

The group also watched an informative video presentation and participated in a discussion with their knowledgeable Yakult guide, Leilani. Leilani shared insights into the company's history, products, and day-to-day operations. A valuable learning experience, giving students practical insight into the world of work. Reinforcing key employability skills and providing a meaningful connection between their studies and real workplace environments.

YCC farewelled Darcy yesterday as he completed his placement hours for his Diploma of Community Services with Victoria University. In true YCC fashion, we celebrated Darcy's achievements with a traditional send-off and a special cake baked by our CEO Jessie Deane.

During his time at YCC, Darcy gained experience across many areas of the organisation. He supported our AMEP (Adult Migrant English Program) and SEE (Skills for Education and Employment) students in navigating a range of services, assisted with food relief, participated in the Chatty Café initiative, and even took part in the African drumming activities at the Carers Expo, where YCC was proudly involved.

Darcy has been a wonderful addition to our team, and it has been a pleasure having him at YCC. We are grateful for the energy, kindness and dedication he has brought to his placement, and we wish him all the very best for the future. We have no doubt that his passion for helping others will continue to make a positive difference wherever his journey takes him.

Yesterday, our YCC team attended the Carers Victoria Roving Respite event, a wonderful day dedicated to supporting unpaid carers.

The event gave carers the opportunity to take a break, connect with others, and discover the services and supports available in their community. It was a valuable chance to engage with local organisations, access helpful information, and enjoy some well-deserved time for themselves. The program also included an interactive African drumming session, with YCC’s social work student Darcy enthusiastically joining in!

Thank you to Carers Victoria for creating such a meaningful and valuable experience for those who dedicate so much of themselves to caring for others.

Today marks the beginning of Adult Learners Week 2026, a national celebration of lifelong learning and the many ways adults can continue to grow, connect, and build new skills throughout their lives.

At Yarraville Community Centre, we are proud to support adult learning in so many facets of what we deliver. From creative arts, health and wellbeing programs, digital skills, language learning, workshops, and social connection opportunities.

To celebrate Adult Learners Week, we're delighted to be hosting a FREE Health & Climate Preparedness Session this Thursday 3 September, presented by GenWest.

Book into to this FREE session and learn about local impacts of climate change, including heatwaves and flooding and prepare your household for emergencies.

Book Week was in full swing at Yarraville Community Centre childcare this week!

From superheroes to beloved storybook characters, our children embraced the spirit of Book Week by dressing up as favourites such as Spider-Man, Rex from Toy Story, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and others! Seeing the characters come to life made the week extra special and lots of fun!

Celebrated in Australia for more than 80 years, Book Week encourages children to discover the joy of reading, storytelling and imagination. It was wonderful to see our children sharing stories, exploring new adventures through books, and developing a love of reading that will stay with them for years to come.

YCC provides childcare for children aged 6 months to 5 years, with both permanent and casual places available. Visit the website to learn more about YCC's childcare services and to check out the upcoming September school holiday program for children aged 7 to 12 years.

Happy Wear It Purple Day! 💜

At Yarraville Community Centre, we proudly celebrate diversity and the many identities that make our community stronger, richer and more vibrant. Today, our staff wore a touch of purple to show support for LGBTQIA+ young people and to acknowledge the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, valued and respected.

We also celebrate the friends, families, teachers, colleagues and allies who help make those spaces possible by encouraging people to be themselves and feel a sense of belonging.

Every young person deserves to feel safe, supported and proud of who they are. Together, we can continue to build a community where everyone is accepted for exactly who they are. From everyone at YCC, Happy Wear It Purple Day 💜💜
