Are you familiar with the ancient technique of catching monkeys?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A cage is made with narrow gaps between the bars, a banana is placed inside the cage. The monkeys come along, reach into the cage and take hold of the banana. The monkeys then go about the challenging process of pulling it out through the narrow bars. At this time the captor simply comes along and grabs the monkey. Here is the funny thing, the monkey is always free, never does it enter the cage; it's only their reluctance to let go of the banana that leads them to be captured.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I leave you with the question, what banana's are holding you captive? Could you let them go to move closer towards your freedom?
Tomorrow morning at we will explore this one further.

In this morning’s practice we explored ā€˜sustaining/preserving’. What really came through for me this week was that ā€˜to sustain is to breathe’, Our breath is a pathway to create harmony on all levels.
When I think about how i want to show up for life in the sustaining phase I take inspiration from our fur baby Kavi, here is what he taught me;
1. Greet loved ones as if you haven’t seen them in months
2. Enjoy walks in nature, stop and smell the roses
3. Don’t hold grudges
4. Give love freely
5. Play, choose joy
6. Pay attention, notice the subtleties
7. Protect what you love
8. Be grateful
Next week we’ll explore ā€˜dissolving’ and the energy of Shiva.

Absolutely loved stepping back into the seat of teacher today . We began with a class on ā€˜creation’ exploring how we can create from a place of awareness and steer the ship of our lives. Why?
Here are my musings on the topic..
Our experience of the world, is shaped only by what we perceive. If we are floating around without attention odds are we are drifting in the current of life, perhaps off course and directionless. Expanding our awareness, expands our experience of life, the good, the bad - all of it. When we know where we are it’s far easier to navigate. We can’t fix something we can’t see. The invitation; slow down, pay attention, listen, truly listen and then move from forward from a place of clarity.
Next week we’ll explore the ā€˜sustaining’ force.

***Return to teaching***
Honestly I thought I was done, it seemed too easy to walk away and for long time I didn’t miss it..but then something shifted…the inspiration started spontaneously dropping in and I knew it was time to go back. I’m so excited to return to sharing the teachings of yoga, the ones that have continued to guide me over the last year or so despite having little to no physical practice. I’ll be joining offering just one longer class each week, would love to re-connect and see you there!

***Update on Classes***
Many of you have reached out to ask about classes resuming with the easing of restrictions. While the Bridge Club have offered up the space again, I’ve declined the offer.
There are a number of reasons for this decision, but if I’m to be completely honest, I’ve lost the passion for it and that was always the key driver behind my teaching. I find myself going full circle and stepping back into the world of engineering and I’m really enjoying the change. Who knows what the future holds, I may yet go full circle with yoga but in the short term, I’ll be continuing to step away from teaching.
I thank you all for your support over the years, while I’m not missing the teaching I am missing your smiling faces and hope that you are doing well.

*** All Classes on Hold from 17th Dec ***

It’s been so heart warming to see our community grow over the last 12+ months.

For me, this is what yoga is all about, ā€˜union’, individuals coming together into a space of inclusivity where we all are greeted with kindness and respected regardless of personal choices.

Unfortunately, the Coolum Bridge Club (who we hire the hall from) are insisting that anybody who enters the hall after the 17th must be vaccinated against COVID.

Given that selective admission is completely at odds with what yoga is all about, I’m not willing to continue at this venue under these circumstances so I’ve decided to put a hold on all classes at the Yaroomba Meeting Place from this coming Friday.

I’ll be exploring alternate options in coming weeks and will keep you all posted. In the meantime, stay strong, remember your breath, and take care of yourselves and one another, these are crazy unprecedented times.

YOGA WITH MANDY

Mandy is a self-confessed yoga nerd :)

She still recalls her first taste of yoga vividly, it was back in 2007 in a Body Balance class. From this very first experience Mandy was aware of the profound ability for yoga to provide a 'work in' rather than a 'work out’.

At the time she was working as an engineering consultant spending her spare time training for long distance triathlons, using the yoga practice to stretch it out and acclimatise to heat stress. You could say she was on the express route to burn out. It was during the periods of complete exhaustion that she tuned to yoga in a big way, slowly coming to realise that the practice continually picked her up and restored balance when she ran herself into the ground. With that realisation came a calling to go deeper.

It was during 2013 that she put aside her engineering career and answered the calling immersing deeply into the practice, study and teaching of yoga. Since then, she hasn’t stopped.
