What a mammoth day of learning and adventure!
Our Year 6 students packed an incredible amount into today, visiting the Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House), the National Electoral Education Centre, the Royal Australian Mint, the Australian Institute of Sport, and finishing the day exploring the hands-on exhibits at Questacon.
Throughout every visit, our students were highly engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and embraced every learning opportunity. Staff at multiple venues took the time to comment on our students’ exceptional manners, respectful behaviour, enthusiasm, and etiquette. We couldn’t be prouder of the way they have represented Yandina State School throughout the week. They have been outstanding ambassadors for our school and community, and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves. One day to go!

What an unforgettable day!
We started with a fascinating visit to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre, where students learnt how hydro electricity is made, the importance of renewable energy and how the snow supports this facility, paired with a hot choccy before heading up the mountain to Perisher.
We were incredibly lucky to be greeted by snow, making for the perfect day on the slopes! There was plenty of penguining 🐧, snowball fights, snow angels, laughter, and even the creation of a new Yandina student… Jerry ☃️!
It was certainly a chilly day, with temperatures dropping to -4°C and winds reaching 30 km/h, but that didn’t stop our students from making the most of every minute. The smiles on their faces said it all! It’s a day our Year 6 students will remember for years to come! ❄️💙

Checkin on day 2 - What’s been your favourite thing so far???

A crisp Canberra morning quickly turned into a beautiful sunny day as our Year 6 students set off for another action-packed day of learning and adventure.
Our visit to Parliament House gave students the opportunity to showcase everything they have been learning about Australia’s system of government. It was fantastic to see them confidently making connections between their classroom learning and the real thing.
We then visited Government House, gaining an insight into the role of the Governor-General and the history of this significant Australian residence.
The afternoon was filled with prehistoric fun at the National Dinosaur Museum, where students explored fascinating exhibits and discovered more about Australia’s ancient past.
To finish off a wonderful day, we made our way to the top of Mount Ainslie, taking in the breathtaking panoramic views across Canberra. It was the perfect way to end another memorable day.
