🎨🖤💛❤️ NAIDOC DEADLY DOORS COMPETITION

As part of our NAIDOC celebrations, our GEM classes took part in the Deadly Doors Competition, decorating their classroom doors to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and achievements.

There were some fantastic and creative entries across the College, making it a tough competition to judge!

🏆 Congratulations to Ms Howard’s 7GEM3, who were crowned the winners of this year’s Deadly Doors Competition!

A big thank you to all of our GEM classes for getting involved and helping bring our NAIDOC celebrations to life throughout the College. 🖤💛❤️

🇯🇵❤️ FAREWELL TO OUR JAPANESE VISITORS

Yesterday, it was an emotional farewell as we said goodbye to our visiting Japanese students after a wonderful time spent at our College.

Our students and guests thoroughly enjoyed the experience, forming new friendships, sharing cultures and creating some very special memories together.

The farewell included a beautiful solo guitar performance by Year 10 student Selena F, who performed a selection of classical pieces. 🎶

As a special keepsake, the College presented our Japanese visitors with a framed group photo featuring a decorative border created by Indigenous student Shelby S – a meaningful reminder of their time with us.

While there were a few tears as goodbyes were said, it won’t be goodbye for long! Our students are already looking forward to reconnecting with their new friends when they visit Japan later this year. 🇦🇺✈️🇯🇵

Thank you to our Japanese visitors for being part of our College community. We hope you return home with many wonderful memories of your time with us. ❤️

🖤💛❤️ Our Winning NAIDOC Shirt Design! 🖤💛❤️

As part of our NAIDOC celebrations, our Indigenous students were invited to showcase their creativity and culture by designing a special NAIDOC shirt for our College staff.

We are proud to share this year’s winning student-designed shirt, which our staff have been proudly wearing throughout our NAIDOC celebrations!

Huge congratulations to our talented student designer, Katie, for creating such a meaningful design, and it's fantastic to see it brought to life and worn across our College. 👏

🏉 YEAR 7–9 GIRLS AFL – ANOTHER GREAT WIN! 🏉- more photos to follow!

What a fantastic result for our Year 7–9 Girls AFL team, who took on Irene McCormack Catholic College yesterday and came away with a well-deserved win! 👏

This week, the team took a different approach to leadership, appointing three captains across the year groups – Sienna O’D (Year 9), Noelle S (Year 8) and Morgan R (Year 7).

Huge congratulations to our captains and all 33 girls who represented YSC. It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout and another great display of teamwork, enthusiasm and school spirit.

A big thank you to the staff who helped make the game possible – Mr Gardner for umpiring, Mrs Hall for jumping on board to support our girls, Danni and Makani for their ongoing first aid assistance and outstanding organisation, and Elaine Matheison for capturing photos throughout the game. 📸

🌟 A special shoutout to Year 9 student Bentley S!

Bentley continues to show incredible enthusiasm and initiative in supporting our girls’ team. From coaching and organising the warm-up to managing the magnets and interchange board and helping pack everything away, Bentley’s commitment and willingness to get involved are something our College community can be very proud of.

Enrolments for the October and summer VacSwim programs are now open - but be quick, spots are limited and venues will close once fully booked.

VacSwim helps kids aged 5 to 17 build confidence, stay safe and have fun in the water. With more than 175 locations across WA, there’s a program for everyone in pools and beaches.

🇯🇵🇦🇺 Welcome to Yanchep Secondary College! 🇯🇵🇦🇺

This week, we are delighted to welcome students from Shimodate Daiichi High School in Japan to Yanchep Secondary College!

Our visiting students will be spending the week experiencing life at an Australian school and have been buddied with Yanchep Secondary College students who are studying Japanese.

Throughout the week, our guests will join their buddies in classes and activities, experience Australian school and student life, and have plenty of opportunities to practise their English, while our students put their Japanese language skills into action! 🇯🇵🤝🇦🇺

The visit is part of a wonderful cultural exchange between our schools, with our Yanchep Secondary College students looking forward to making the return journey and visiting Japan later this year.

Experiences like these provide our students with valuable opportunities to build friendships, develop their language skills and learn about another culture firsthand.

We hope our Shimodate Daiichi students have a fantastic week and enjoy everything Yanchep Secondary College and our community have to offer.

🖤💛❤️ **NAIDOC Celebrations Begin at Yanchep Secondary College** ❤️💛🖤

Today we officially opened our NAIDOC - "50 Years of Deadly" celebrations at Yanchep Secondary College.

Despite some last-minute changes to our Opening Ceremony due to the stormy weather, our students had a fantastic opportunity to come together, learn and engage with Aboriginal culture.

A special thank you to Stacey from Whadjuk Catering Company, along with her protégé, son and YSC student, Aubrey, who shared a wonderful bush tucker experience with our students.

Students had the opportunity to sample a range of foods, including kangaroo, kangaroo sausages, kangaroo sausage rolls, emu sausages, crocodile and bush spice chicken. The experience was incredibly popular, with excited students lining up out the door to have a taste!

Students were also able to explore a bush herb display, providing a hands-on sensory experience where they could touch and smell a variety of native herbs while learning more about their traditional uses.

Our NAIDOC celebrations will continue throughout the week, with face painting and a range of arts and cultural activities scheduled during Break 1 & 2 each day.

It was a wonderful way to begin a week of learning, celebrating and recognising the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to our wonderful local community supporters who braved the weather to join us for our Opening Ceremony. We were pleased to welcome Lorna Clarke MLA, Mayor Linda Aitken, Yanchep RSL President Mr Jones, representatives from Yanchep Police, YouthCare and Bunnings Mindarie, and YSC Board Members Ms Nelson and Mr Pearson.
