Our Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Program has been in full swing this term as we continue to support our future Year 7 students in preparing for high school! Students have participated in our Introduction to Wynyard High School session, while students requiring additional transition have taken part in three smaller sessions focused on getting to know Wynyard High School, Cooking and Drumbeat. Yesterday, we also welcomed students for our Extension Transition session, providing another opportunity to become familiar with our school, staff and learning environment.

What a success! Our students did an incredible job bringing Nonna Bella’s Italian Pop-Up Café to life, serving up delicious Italian-inspired food and creating a fantastic experience for everyone who joined us.

Our Year 7 and 8 students took to the court last week for the Badminton Gala Day, enjoying a great day of competition and representing Wynyard High School proudly. Congratulations to our Year 8 Boys team who came away winners of their division!

Our students are excited for today’s Italian Pop-Up Café, happening at lunchtime! Come along, enjoy some delicious Italian-inspired food and support the students who have been busy preparing for today.

Our Year 7 students have been enjoying their weekly Peer Support sessions, building connections, developing teamwork skills and strengthening relationships with their peers. These sessions provide a great opportunity for students to work together, have fun and continue building a positive and connected Year 7 community.

Our Horticulture students were out in the community, working alongside Matt Rose and Waratah-Wynyard Council on the River Track revegetation project. Together, they planted an impressive 180 tube stock, helping to restore and enhance this important local area.

We were delighted to welcome The Honourable Ruth Forrest MLC, Independent Member for Murchison, to Wynyard High School to meet with three of our remarkable young women as they prepare to participate in the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Australia Stepping Up Program.

Ruth spent time with the students sharing her own life story and journey into Parliament, from her career as a nurse and midwife through to becoming a Member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council. Her story provided the students with a valuable insight into leadership, perseverance and the many different pathways that can lead to making a difference in your community.

This visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain a greater understanding of Parliament and to hear firsthand from a woman who has dedicated many years to serving her community.

A huge thank you to Ruth Forrest MLC for taking the time to visit Wynyard High School, share her story and help prepare our students for this exciting leadership opportunity.
