On August 5th, our Year 11 Aerospace class visited the new viewing area at Brisbane Airport.
This gave the class the opportunity to see firsthand the airport's instrument landing systems, taxiway signage, and ground operations
What a fantastic experience for our students to see aviation firsthand.

Iona Students Take on the QLD Bridge Building Challenge
Last week, twenty students from Years 8, 9 and 10 proudly represented Iona College in the Queensland Bridge Building Competition, held at QUT (Queensland University of Technology). This exciting engineering challenge tested students' creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
In the weeks leading up to the competition, the teams designed and built their own bridges using nothing but store-bought spaghetti and glue. It was inspiring to see them all support each other. At QUT, their structures were put to the test on a special rig, which measured how much weight each bridge could hold before breaking. The bridge that holds the greatest load before collapsing will be declared the winner, results won't be announced until testing is completed across Queensland in early September.
As part of the excursion, students also toured QUT and met a robot from the Centre for Robotics—one of Australia's top research facilities in intelligent robotics. They saw firsthand how robotic and autonomous systems are being developed to solve real-world problems and help shape the future.
Well done to all students involved for their hard work and innovation. Looking forward to more exciting challenges ahead.
