I shall be found here if you need me.
Don’t forget that if you’re ever in Alnwick, Northumberland and you’re a fan of books and model trains, there a place called Barter Books with a massive selection of titles, a cafe that used to be a waiting room, and a model railway chugging around above the shelves.
It’s situated inside the old Victorian station building (the Alnwick branch closed in 1968), and it’s called ‘Barter Books’ because loads of people just take their old books there and exchange them for others. It’s even been described as ‘the British Library of second-hand bookshops.’

Still true
Year 12s are in the final stretch with exams in 3 weeks. We acknowledge all their hard work in trying circumstances. For a number of reasons the Queensland 2020 cohort will not receive the scores they may have. What's not on their certificate (but should be) is all the patience, grit, resilience and determination to make the most of a difficult time.
Even with a lower score, all is not lost. There are many pathways to university if that's the dream. Just keep asking till you hear the solution.
For those not heading to further education, the world is a place where you make a difference. You matter, no matter what you do. Never underestimate the power of kindness and doing your job well. It makes the world go round.

Attention parents of year 12 students!
The last English exam essay is only 7 days away.
If your child is worried about it consider having a private session with me to help them with:
* the essay structure
* the content (e.g. Macbeth)
* being calm under exam pressure
I am a fully qualified registered teacher specialising in English.
I help at both ends of the spectrum: getting 'C students' over the line as well as getting 'A students' their best results.
Phone or message me 0413931870 for availability.

Some people know what's happened to me and some people don't.
I can report that the worst is over.
In February 2020, just before covid I suddenly acquired debilitating vertigo. It wrote me off 24-7 for months. No doctors could figure it out. I got a diagnosis which doesn't have any treatment options. Everything that moved made me dizzy.
So I did my best. I cut back on what I could...which was all my coaching and workshops, my pawtrait painting and a lot of ordinary things.
It was a very difficult time...as it was for a lot of other people during the first round of covid.
How did I get better?
I joined a fb support group. I found a med that mostly settled the symptoms down from 9s to 4s.
I remembered what I know about neuroplasticity.
So my recovery started with a girls week on Norfolk Island. Everything that would normally be a trigger wasn't. We drank, we laughed, we played, we hiked, we swam, we watched swirling seas and I was all good.
But I had to come home and within a month the symptoms had returned and I was back on the meds.
But I knew I could be free of vertigo if I set myself up for it.
I started to consciously create and dwell in neural pathways of happiness. This helps to distract the brain from other neural pathways which might be dizziness-anxiety-dizziness. So the answer is to get tipsy with friends, play music, dance, and go get vitamin Sea, and generally dare to hope!
Another trick I use is to go barefoot around the house and outside. The messaging I get from my feet is louder than the dizziness messaging.
In the path to recovery I have taken an adjustable approach, which means I only nudge my brain with an achievable challenge. I pay a lot of attention to my mindset and only approach a challenge with an encouraging gentle loving inner voice. I gradually weaned off the meds when I had time to cope with the effects and do the last bit of retraining.
I now only have micro sessions of dizziness lasting from a few seconds to maybe 15mins. Getting smaller every week.
And life is pretty hectic for a fair bit longer as we complete building our new house and get married in October.
After that I'll be taking the time to smell the roses and count my blessings.
Big love to all of us on the journey!
💜 Tamara

The wheels of tuition keep on turning even during lockdown.
Many students chose to remain online after the first lockdown in 2020. So it feels pretty normal.
My thoughts are with all the teachers and parents experiencing all the extra workload from this latest upheaval.
