JEANS FOR GENES:
1 in 20 kids faces a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and life-threatening metabolic disorders. That's 12 kids born every minute worldwide.
Wynnum & Bayside is proud to be wearing our Jeans on the 6th August to help raise money for the Children's Medical Research Institute.

Self-Portraits with Natural Resources

Today, the children explored their creativity by creating self-portraits using a variety of natural materials such as leaves, sticks, flowers, and stones. This hands-on experience encouraged them to observe their own unique features while developing creativity, problem-solving skills, and fine motor coordination. Using natural resources also helped foster an appreciation for the environment and promoted conversations about sustainability, nature, and the many ways we can use natural materials in our learning.

The name NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee. The event has its origins in the 1938 Day of Mourning protest and became a week-long celebration in 1975.

NAIDOC Week is a national celebration held each year to recognise and celebrate the history, culture, achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It provides an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and participate in community events and celebrations.

The 2026 NAIDOC Week theme is "50 Years of Deadly", celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC Week and recognising the Elders, leaders, artists, organisers and communities who have shaped the movement over the past five decades. In this context, the word Deadly is a positive Aboriginal English term meaning excellent, strong, talented or outstanding
