TODAY IS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2024

Did you know?
* Almost 60 per cent of all species live in soil, making land the planet’s most biodiverse habitat.
* Only 0.5 per cent of water on Earth is useable and available freshwater.
* Forests are home to more than half of the world’s land-based species of animals, plants and insects.

The earth needs us now more than ever, that's why at St Joseph's we develop the knowledge and the heart to care for our environment.

We are a Catholic Earthcare Australia school. We are the generation that can make peace with land.

Staff and students from St Joseph's Werribee wore yellow on Monday to support Children's Ground for Reconciliation Week.

"Reconciliation is a time to pay our respects to Indigenous people, to walk and talk together and share our stories," said St Joseph's student Brody.

And why yellow? Yellow is a vibrant colour deeply rooted in the land, symbolising the sacred ochre that First Nations people have used for generations. It represents a profound connection to Country and the earth. In the Aboriginal Flag, yellow is central, representing the sun, the giver of life.

The senior students had a great day at the Wyndham Vale district winter gala day on Friday. They competed in AFL, Soccer, Netball and Tee Ball. Our mixed netball team finished first in their competition! Congratulations to all our amazing students who continue to display our school values. Across all sports we had many comments on our students sportsmanship kindness and respect. What a wonderful way to represent our school.

Reconciliation week: This week is a time to celebrate the rich culture, history and contributions of Indigenous Australians. It's also a time for all of us to reflect on our shared journey towards healing and unity. Let's commit to building stronger relationships based on respect, understanding, and shared stories. Together, we can make a difference.

26/05/2024

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2024 is "Now More Than Ever." This means it's really important to keep working for fairness and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Even when things are tough, we shouldn't give up. Many people in Australia want to help, and we need to keep standing up for what is right. This includes making agreements, telling the truth about our history, learning, and stopping racism.

Sorry Day, which happens just before Reconciliation Week, is a special time to remember and say sorry for the wrong things done to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the past. It's a time to promise to do better.

We need to stay connected, show respect, take action, and make changes. Now more than ever, we need to work together for reconciliation.

Today St Joseph's had our Eucharist Spirituality Day. Students participated in workshops to deepen their understanding of the sacrament and help them draw connections to their own lives. There were prayer bracelets, role playing scripture stories, salt dough cross decorating detailed symbols of the Eucharist and sharing lunch with one another. It was a faith filled and rich experience for all.

What an incredible Eucharist Family Formation Night! Tonight was filled with faith, moments of prayer and reflection, a deeper understanding of the Eucharist and connections made with between families. How lucky we are for the sense of community and the shared journey of faith.

Today our Foundation Buddy program was busy learning about the wonderful world of bowerbirds and how they collect anything blue to decorate their nest. They coloured their birds all shades of blue. What fun!

Today we celebrate the arrival of the Holy Spirit, which filled the apostles with courage and inspired them to spread the teachings of Jesus. This special day reminds us of the power of faith, unity, and the importance of sharing kindness and love with everyone around us.

What a massive day we had yesterday! Picture this…laughter, respectful behaviours, cheering, crying, supportive words, team, encouragement, courage, acts of kindness, camaraderie, frustration, and so much more. Then at the end of the day, more laughter, more tears, squealing, and very very wet bodies. All through this day, there was the greatest sense of community and support. There were people seeking to understand, people challenging decisions and anticipation as the scores changed. Finally at the end of the day the results were in.

The winning order was -
Barr Smith (Blue) - 647
Anderledy (Yellow) - 625
Tension Woods (Green) - 609
La Merci (Red) - 604

What a community so proud to be a part of. Well done everyone and a massive thank you to the parents, families and friends for coming along, as spectators and supporters, or volunteered for the day.
A massive thank you to the staff and especially our wonderful Louise. You lead sports in every element throughout our school community with passion, dedication and commitment with a huge smile.
