📚✨ Book Week 2026 ✨📚

What a truly wonderful day we had in Numurkah for Book Week 2026! 💛

📖 Our students set off on a literary adventure along Melville Street, dressed in their fantastic Book Week outfits and ready to discover stories around our local community. Along the way, students stopped at different locations on the main street to listen to some much loved stories brought to life in unexpected places!

🐭🦛 From ‘A Mouse Just Ate My House’ at McNamara Real Estate, to ‘There’s a Hippopotamus on Our Roof Eating Cake’ at the Numurkah Bakery, there were plenty of wonderful stories, familiar faces and surprises along the way.

It was such a beautiful way to bring books out of the classroom and into our community, connecting with local businesses and sharing our love of reading with the wider Numurkah community. ❤️

And of course, there was no shortage of smiles, whimsy and imagination! Our students absolutely embraced the adventure, with storybook characters wandering through the streets and plenty of curious little readers stopping to listen, explore and enjoy.

We were also incredibly proud of how wonderfully our students represented Wunghnu Primary School. It was fantastic to see our students alongside children from other local schools, all dressed up and celebrating the magic of books together. 📚🌈

A huge thank you to everyone in the Numurkah community who helped make the day so special. Days like these remind us that books have a wonderful way of bringing people together, sparking imagination and turning an ordinary day into something magical. ✨

✍️📖 From Little Things, Big Things Grow 📖✍️

We could not be prouder of our Senior students and the incredible narratives they have created!

For the past five weeks, our Seniors have been on a writing journey that has taken them from those very first sparks of an idea, to planning, to first drafts, editing, refining and finally… their finished stories! 🌟

Writing a narrative is no small task, and our students have really pushed themselves throughout the process. They have battled writer's block and worked through tricky moments, refining their ideas, strengthening their writing and developing their stories into polished pieces they can be proud of.

And the result? An incredible collection of original narratives that showcase just how much our students are capable of. 👏✨

We have been so impressed by the creativity, imagination, persistence and their growing confidence in writing. Seeing the students hold up their finished narratives with such pride is a wonderful reminder of how much can be achieved when you keep working, even when the words don't come easily.

Five weeks. Countless ideas. Plenty of perseverance. And some truly wonderful stories. Well done, Seniors! We are incredibly proud of you! 🌟

🚢⚓️ A Pirates Life For Us! ⚓️🚢

What an incredible day of learning our students had as we explored Polly Woodside, Cook’s Cottage and Fitzroy Gardens! 🗺️✨

Our adventure began aboard the Polly Woodside, where students stepped back in time to discover what life was really like at sea. They learnt about the ship’s incredible journeys around the world and the hard work required from the crew.

And of course, we couldn’t just learn about life at sea, we had to experience it! ⚓

Our students:
🧽 Scrubbed the decks
☸️ Took the wheel and learnt the difference between port and starboard
💪 Tried their hand at some heavy lifting in the cargo hold
🔔 And were even honoured with the very special opportunity to ring the original ship’s bell!

After working up an appetite, we headed to Fitzroy Gardens for lunch before continuing our historical adventure.

🏡 Our Seniors explored Cook’s Cottage, discovering what life was like for James Cook and his family in Yorkshire. They got a glimpse into everyday life from another time and were even able to enjoy some traditional games and activities.

There were plenty of skittles, quoits and some very determined attempts to get the ball into the cup! 🎳🏹 We think a few students may have discovered that historical games are just as awesome as modern ones!

🌿🧚 Meanwhile, our Juniors went on their own magical adventure through Fitzroy Gardens!

They explored the beautiful gardens, discovered hidden corners and kept their eyes peeled for some very special little residents… fairies! 🧚✨

With every twist and turn of the garden path came another opportunity to wonder, explore and imagine. Our Juniors embraced their inner explorers, searching for signs of fairy life and enjoying the magic of being surrounded by nature. Who knows what fairy meetings might have been happening amongst the flowers and trees! 🌸🍄🧚‍♀️

It was a wonderful day filled with history, hands-on learning, teamwork, curiosity and plenty of fun. Our students embraced every opportunity to learn beyond the classroom, and as always, made some wonderful memories along the way.

🏸🌟 Dream Big. Work Hard. Never Give Up. 🌟🏸

On Friday, we were incredibly lucky to welcome Mike Scandolera, Australian badminton champion and Commonwealth Games gold and bronze medallist, to Wunghnu Primary School.

Mike shared his incredible journey with our students, from discovering badminton as a young boy to representing Australia at three Commonwealth Games. 🥇🇦🇺

But what made Mike's visit truly special wasn't just the medals. It was the story behind them.

Mike spoke to our students about setting goals, following your passions, putting in the hard work and dedication, and perhaps most importantly… never giving up when things don't go your way.

His story was a wonderful reminder that success doesn't happen overnight. It's built through practice, persistence, determination and believing in yourself, even when the goal feels a long way away.

Our students were inspired to think about their own goals and what they can achieve when they are willing to put in the effort and keep going. We were so proud to see our school values of “Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be a Learner” reflected in the way our students listened, engaged and embraced the opportunity to learn from Mike's experiences. 💙

A huge thank you to Mike for sharing not only his sporting achievements, but the lessons, challenges and determination that came with them. What an incredible example of what is possible when you dream big, work hard and never give up!

🥕🍓Lettuce tell you about our week in the Kitchen Garden! 🍓🥕

It's been another berry busy week in the garden, with our students digging, planting, harvesting and getting wonderfully muddy along the way!

🍓 Our strawberry patch has had a fresh start with students digging up, separating and replanting our strawberry plants. We have an un-beet-able number of strawberry plants growing at the moment, so watch this space... there could be some berry exciting things coming soon! ✨

🥕 Our Junior gardeners harvested one of our veggie patches, pulling up an impressive crop of carrots and beetroot. The carrots have been disappearing just as quickly as they're picked, with students happily munching on them during fruit break. We think we may have a few little bunnies in disguise.🐰

🌿 Our Senior students have been working harder than ever, spreading mulch throughout the Kitchen Garden to help keep our plants happy, healthy and thriving. Their teamwork has really helped our garden grow and their efforts are mulch appreciated. 💪🏼

Of course, no Kitchen Garden session is complete without plenty of digging, bug hunting and worm spotting. Our students absolutely love getting their hands dirty, exploring the amazing creatures that call our garden home, and learning where fresh food comes from. There's nothing quite like harvesting something you've grown yourself!

We're so proud of our little gardeners who are growing confidence, curiosity and kindness, one veggie patch at a time. 💚

🐠🌈 The Rainbow Fish Comes to Life! 🌈🐠

Last term, our Junior students dove into the wonderful story of The Rainbow Fish during their Readers Workshop. Over two weeks, they explored the book's important themes of kindness, friendship, generosity and why sharing with others helps build strong relationships.

To celebrate the end of their learning, our Juniors put on a fantastic reenactment of The Rainbow Fish for our Senior students. Their confidence, creativity and enthusiasm shone as they brought the much-loved story to life, sharing its important message with the school.

It was wonderful to see our students not only develop their reading and speaking skills, but also deepen their understanding of empathy and the positive impact that kindness and sharing can have on others.

A big congratulations to our Junior students on a wonderful performance, and thank you to our Senior students for being such a supportive audience. We are so proud of you all! 💙

🎉 100 Days of Prep! 🎉

Last Friday, we celebrated a very special milestone as our Prep students reached 100 days of school!

Our amazing Preps came dressed as adorable elderly citizens, proudly wearing their “I Rocked 100 Days of Prep” shirts. Their creative costumes brought plenty of laughs and showed just how far they’ve come in their first 100 days of learning.

The celebrations continued with students creating 100-count Cheerio necklaces, carefully counting each piece as they built their necklaces. What a fun way to practise their maths skills!

We are incredibly proud of our Prep students for everything they have achieved over the past 100 days. They have grown in confidence, made new friendships, and embraced every learning opportunity with enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store!

📚🏛️ Numurkah Museum ☀️💼

Our students had a fantastic day being shown around the Numurkah Musuem!
Students had the opportunity to play the Pianola, learn about the history of Numurkah, and Wunghnu and try their hand at a calligraphy nib 🖌️📓

A huge thank you to the volunteers who showed us around the museum and made the morning very enjoyable!
