🏆 Celebrating Curtley’s Sporting Success! 🏆

Woree State High School is incredibly proud of Curtley and his outstanding year across AFL, Rugby League, Basketball and Track & Field!

🏉 AFL: Premiership winner with South Cairns Cutters U15s, scoring 5 goals and earning Best on Ground & Player of the Match. Curtley has also been selected for the Gold Coast SUNS Academy Squad and Emerging Talent opportunities.

🏉 Rugby League: Selected for the 2027 Cyril Connell Cup program.

🏀 Basketball: Currently competing in the semi-finals with his team.

🏃 Track & Field: Selected for the Peninsula Team, qualifying for five events at the State Championships.

Curtley is a true quiet achiever, letting his hard work and performances speak for themselves.

♟️ Interschool Chess Tournament ♟️

The final Interschool Chess Tournament for 2026 was a historic one for Woree State High School!

For the first time ever, Woree entered a team into the Premier Division, where the eight most elite school teams battled it out for a place at the State Championships. Our team put up a valiant fight, although they were ultimately unsuccessful in securing a place.

A total of seven Woree students represented our school in this huge competition, which featured more than 500 competitors!

• Dexter – 5 wins
• Ila – 1 win
• Bhavesh – 2 wins, 1 draw
• Hieu – 3 wins

♟️ B Grade
• Ites – 4 wins, 1 draw
• Renesmee – 1 win, 2 draws
• Daniel – 4 wins, 2 draws

A fantastic effort from all our players! Congratulations to everyone who represented Woree and helped make history for our school. 👏♟️

🎸 Bandalism — A Woree High Hit! 🎸

Bandalism completed their first-ever live performance on Wednesday, and they certainly did not disappoint! 🤘

Abinash, Ites, Leroy and Richard absolutely rocked the stage, putting on an amazing performance that was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. 🎶🔥

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support Bandalism’s debut performance. Your encouragement and support meant so much to the boys.

💛 R U OK? Day at Woree State High School 💛

Yesterday, our Woree community came together to recognise R U OK? Day and the importance of checking in with those around us.

A simple “Are you OK?” can start an important conversation, show someone you care and remind them that they’re never alone. 💛

Thank you to our students and staff for helping spread kindness, connection and support across our school community.

🌟 Year 10 Positive Behaviour Acknowledgement 🌟

On Monday night, selected Year 10 students enjoyed a special evening at Grill’d Cairns Central to celebrate their outstanding positive behaviour throughout Term 3.

Students enjoyed burgers, chips, drinks and plenty of fun trivia, with some even earning an extra burger! 🍔🎉

It was a fantastic opportunity for students to relax, connect and celebrate their achievements outside the classroom.

A big thank you to Mr Mitchell for helping supervise the evening, and congratulations to all students who attended. You represented Woree State High School with pride!

A warm welcome from our Junior Deputy Principal, Mr Michael Starr!

This week, Mr Starr has been greeting students at the school gates while proudly sporting the refurbished trolley our students completed earlier this year.

Students stopped by on their way into school to say hello, have a chat and start their day with a friendly welcome.

💪 Year 12 Certificate III in Fitness

Throughout Term 3, our Year 12 Certificate III in Fitness students have been putting their skills into practice by working with teachers, teacher aides and members of Mrs Goodwin’s Tuesday morning Tabata class.

Students have gained valuable real-world experience in client inductions, fitness testing and planning and delivering tailored fitness sessions.

This Tuesday, students led two early-morning group fitness sessions, arriving from 6:00am to set up and prepare—just as they would in the fitness industry.

👏 A huge congratulations to all students for their professionalism, effort and willingness to step outside their comfort zones!

A special thank you to the staff and community members who volunteered their time to support our students and provide these valuable learning opportunities.

SURVIVE 25 COMES TO WOREE!

On Monday, our Year 12 students at Woree State High School took part in an honest and interactive session with Dr Katrina Starmer from the Survive 25 program.

Drawing on her experiences working in the Cairns Emergency Department and with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Dr Starmer shared powerful real-life insights to help students better understand the risks associated with alcohol, drugs, injury and misadventure.

The session encouraged students to think about the decisions they may face as they approach life beyond school, with the aim of helping them stay safe and make informed choices.

A huge thank you to Dr Starmer and the Survive 25 program for bringing this important conversation to our Year 12 students.
