Science Week is ending with a bang… or rather, a fizz! 💥
Year 8 explored evidence of physical and chemical changes by making (and taste-testing!) their own sherbet. 🍬🔬
Our staff also joined the fun with a science themed morning tea full of creative treats! 🧁🧬
Because science is always better when you can see it, make it and eat it! 🤩

🧪 SCIENCE WEEK – HANDS-ON SCIENCE! 🔬☀️
Our students have been getting hands-on with science this week!
👁️ Year 10 students dissected cow eyes to investigate the structures of the eye and trace the journey of light as it enters the eye and is focused onto the retina.
☀️ Year 8 students designed and built their own solar ovens, harnessing radiant solar energy to cook some very tasty s’mores while exploring a real-world application of renewable energy. 🍫🔥
Because science is definitely better when you can see it, build it… and eat it! 😋🧪

🧪🌏 WHAT’S HAPPENING FOR SCIENCE WEEK?
Science Week has provided some fantastic opportunities for our students to experience science beyond the classroom! 🔬✨
🌊 Our Earth & Environmental Science students joined researchers aboard the CSIRO research vessel Investigator, seeing real-world science in action as researchers explored the Great Barrier Reef.
🧬 Our Year 12 Biology students visited the Museum of Human Disease, bringing their learning about human health and disease to life.

🧪 WHAT’S HAPPENING FOR SCIENCE WEEK? 🌿🐋🐊
Science Week is underway at Woonona High School, and today our students had the privilege of hearing from “The Wildlife Man”!
Drawing on more than 40 years of wildlife conservation experience, he captivated students with incredible stories of encounters with humpback whales, sea lions, giant manta rays, crocodiles, gropers and more — including a truly remarkable interaction with a Southern Right Whale. 🐋
But today’s presentation was about much more than amazing wildlife. Through his stories, The Wildlife Man shared powerful messages about courage, determination and resilience, while encouraging students to step outside their comfort zones, pursue their goals and recognise the important role we all play in protecting our natural world. 🌏💚
It was a fantastic way to bring Science Week to life, connecting science, conservation and real world experiences in a way our students won’t forget.

🌊 Big Picture Taster Day 🌊
Some of our Year 7, 8 & 9 students swapped the ordinary classroom for a day of creativity, connection and hands-on learning! They explored the Big Picture way — designing their own "hero for the future," diving into passion projects, and prototyping their own zines.
The day wrapped up with a walk down to Bulli Beach for some mindful reflection by the water. 💛💚
A huge thank you to Ms Crawford and Ms Cohen for bringing this day to life!

What a fantastic start to term 3 at Woonona High School! 🌟
We were proud to welcome 23 students from Koganei Kita High School in Tokyo as part of our annual exchange program. From attending classes and exploring the Illawarra with host families to sharing cultural experiences and celebrating together at our Sayonara Party, the exchange was filled with learning, friendship and unforgettable memories.
A huge thank you to our wonderful host families from Woonona High School, Bulli High School and Woonona East Public School for your generosity and support.
While it's always hard to say goodbye, we are grateful for the friendships we've built and look forward to welcoming our friends from Koganei Kita High School again in the future 🌟
