Book Week at Emanuel Woollahra Preschool 📚

Our lovely families have been invited to bring in their child’s favourite book for a very special reading session.

With the help of our educators, parents arrive in disguise, take on a new voice and read the story to the children — who then have to work out who is behind the costume.

We love seeing books shared in this way, with parents becoming part of the story themselves. 🤍

There’s something special about a preschool that becomes part of a family’s story — and then welcomes the next generation through its doors. 💛

The Australian Jewish News recently featured Emanuel Woollahra Preschool, highlighting the families who keep coming back, from second- and third-generation students to former students who have returned as educators.
Since opening in 1967, EWP has grown and evolved while holding onto what matters: a progressive, child-centred approach to learning, nurturing relationships, Jewish values and a strong sense of belonging.

We’re especially proud to share the story of Natalie Weiss, a former student, current educator and mum to Amelia, who is now making her own memories at the preschool.

This Sunday, join beloved children’s author and illustrator Lauren Briggs, who will bring her beautiful and timely story, LITTLE PAGO, to life in an engaging and interactive morning session at Emanuel Synagogue and Emanuel Woollahra Preschool.

LITTLE PAGO is about friendship, perseverance, and the important role each of us can play in keeping one of our most vulnerable sea creatures safe for future generations, and inspires little ones to turn the tide on plastic pollution in our oceans.

Following story time in our Millie Phillips Gallery, the fun will continue in the playground, where little ones can take part in arts, crafts and hands-on activities facilitated by Lauren. Families can also enjoy a delicious morning tea, lovingly prepared by Nora’s Kitchen.

After enjoying morning tea together beneath the trees, our Joeys set off to explore the park 🔎

Leaves were carefully collected and inspected, sticks became building materials, and the trees invited little climbers to see the world from a different perspective.

Emanuel Synagogue + Emanuel Woollahra Preschool are delighted to welcome beloved children’s author and illustrator Lauren Briggs for Little People of the Books, a morning designed to spark creativity, curiosity and connection for young children and their families.

Lauren will share her new story Little Pago in an engaging, interactive storytelling session. The book explores friendship, perseverance, and caring for endangered sea creatures, offering a gentle introduction for young children to environmental themes.

💗 Farewell, Rabbi Jeffrey Kamins – it has been an honour to know you as the Senior Rabbi of Emanuel Synagogue. We have always cherished your visits, especially leading up to the High Holy Days when you'd bring your shofar, and we hope you will continue to drop in to see us in your new capacity as Rabbi Emeritus. Wishing you a very happy retirement and a well-deserved break.

Purim might be the most fun our kids (and teachers!!) have all year and this morning was no exception. Who doesn’t love the chance to dress up, make lots of noise and learn about our beautiful traditions through song and play? Chag Purim Sameach ✨
