We would like to welcome any prospective Kindergarten students for 2027 and any other families considering our school to an ‘Open Afternoon’.

Children and their parents/carers are invited to play in kindergarten rooms and on our playground, explore our extensive grounds with a school tour (4pm and 5pm) and enjoy a sausage sizzle.

Staff will be on hand to answer any questions and to have a chat, including Principal Michelle Dalgliesh and Assistant Principal Jessie Patterson, along with teaching staff.

Today we welcomed Adam from Adam’s Wildlife Encounters, who presented his engaging “Small and Mighty Show” to the children.

This interactive experience provided a wonderful opportunity for hands-on learning about insects. A range of exploration stations were set up, allowing the children to observe, investigate, and interact in meaningful ways. They had the chance to safely hold insects, use magnifying glasses, and look through clear viewing windows to closely examine different insects and the unique features of their bodies.

Through this experience, the children expanded their knowledge by learning new insect names, identifying body parts, and noticing the differences between various species. It was a fantastic way to spark curiosity, build confidence, and support their understanding of the natural world through play-based learning.

This week we have been celebrating Nature Week across the centre. 🌿

The children have been engaging in a range of nature-based experiences, including creating with natural playdough, exploring with wooden people, and using wooden blocks to design and build their own houses.

We also set up a bug exploration area, incorporating water elements along with dirt and bark, allowing the children to investigate, discover, and connect with the natural environment through hands-on play.

These experiences support children’s curiosity, creativity, and understanding of the world around them while encouraging a strong connection to nature.

We had some very excited Kangaroo children ready for their excursion to St Francis Xavier, Woolgoolga.

This morning we listened to the story Mr Huff and had a group discussion on what it was about.
The children said “ it’s about having a bad day and feeling sadness”.

We adventured on the bus with the children excited to drive through Woolgoolga as they pointed to places they have visited the park, the blue cow, crazy Sam’s.

We arrived at the primary school and the children were escorted into the hall with prime view ready for the play.

Key messages
Emotions and mental wellbeing – understanding sadness, worry, or frustration.
Accepting feelings instead of trying to hide them.
Hope and resilience – bad days can pass, and things can get better.

Today we celebrate women worldwide 🌍

And we want to give a special mention to the wonderful women at Rainbow Cottage ELC, who make it such a special place to be.

Educators, leaders, mentors and role models - their dedication, passion and care shape the lives of the children every single day.

Behind the scenes they are also mums, wives, sisters, aunties, daughters and friends, balancing countless roles while continuing to uplift and support those around them.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Balance the Scales,” reminds us of the importance of fairness, opportunity and recognition for women everywhere.

We also want to shout out to the amazing women in our wider community - our mums, nans, aunties, sisters, friends and all the incredible women who inspire, support and uplift those around them every day!

Today and every day, we celebrate the strength, impact and difference these incredible women make in our school and our community 💜

This week the preschool children have been engaging in Farm Play as part of our dramatic play and learning experiences.

Our farm area has been set up with animals, tractors, paddocks and a barn, inviting the children to explore life on a farm through imaginative role play. The children have been busy feeding animals, fixing fences and harvesting crops.

Through this play, the children are developing:

🌱 Language skills – using animal names, sounds and storytelling
🐑 Early numeracy skills – counting animals, sorting and grouping
🚜 Problem-solving skills – building enclosures and negotiating roles
🥚 Understanding of sustainability – learning where food comes from

We have been having wonderful conversations about questions such as:
• Where do eggs and milk come from?
• What do farm animals eat?
• How do farmers care for their animals?

The children have shown great cooperation, creativity and curiosity throughout this experience.
