YEAR 7 INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Our Year 7 students took part in their very first Interhouse Athletics Carnival, bringing plenty of energy and enthusiasm to the day.

It was fantastic to see our newest students getting involved across the events, challenging themselves, supporting their classmates and proudly representing their House.

Last Thursday, Year 7 and 8 AEE Creative Communication students worked hard as part of the annual Write a Book in a Day competition. Working in teams, the students had to plan, write, illustrate and publish a book within one day, writing to specific parameters that had been set for characters, setting and random words to be included.

As well as developing their creativity, the students developed skills with decision making, working in a team and working to a deadline. Each team also fundraised for children's cancer research, and the books will be distributed to children's hospitals, making this work a very worthwhile experience.

Congratulations to Taylor, who proudly represented Western Australia at the National Gymnastics Championships in July.

Taylor was crowned the Youth Under 15 National Champion for Trampolining, an outstanding achievement at the national level.

Taylor will return to Brisbane in September to compete at the National Clubs Championships. As a member of Team Future, she has also been invited to attend the Team Future Advanced National Training Camp on the Gold Coast.

Congratulations, Taylor, on these outstanding achievements and opportunities. We wish you all the best for your upcoming competitions and training camp.

For the Year 11 Geography ATAR excursion, students visited Caversham Wildlife Park and the Margaret River Chocolate Company in the Swan Valley to explore the diffusion of tourism within Western Australia.

Students visited the wildlife park first, a famous hotspot within the Swan Valley region known for its unique and close interactions with native animals. The experience allowed students to explore and view native animals such as quokkas, peacocks and swans, as well as participate in close-up experiences such as holding snakes and koalas. The free-roaming peacocks proved to be one of the highlights of the day.

Students then proceeded to the Margaret River Chocolate Company for lunch, where they were welcomed with a sampling plate of house-made chocolates. They explored the factory and heard from one of the workers about the production processes and the busiest times of the factory. Students then enjoyed food from the café, stopped to sample the complimentary chocolate and had the opportunity to purchase products.

The excursion provided students with a valuable opportunity to experience tourism within the Swan Valley while connecting their classroom learning to real-world examples.

Congratulations to our incredible Hospitality and Home Economics team, spearheaded by the amazing Mrs Bruce, on winning the HGT School Partnership Award.

This award is so well deserved and recognises the incredible opportunities Mrs Bruce creates for our students through Hospitality. From running student breakfast functions and our twice-weekly cafés, to volunteering for No Limits once a month, Mrs Bruce goes above and beyond to provide authentic, hands-on experiences that help our students build confidence, develop valuable skills and connect with the wider community.

We are incredibly proud of Mrs Bruce and our staff and students. A fantastic achievement and a wonderful recognition of all the hard work and dedication that goes into the program.
