Firstly I want to say sorry for not posting any updates over the last few weeks. In all honesty I simply didn't know what to say. In some regards I still don't. So let me start by saying myself and the members of my team are all ok. The next most important thing I want to say is: Thank you. Thank you to everyone who thought of us during the Cudlee Creek fires and the days and weeks which followed. Thank you to every volunteer, emergency services worker, and all the brave individuals who just got in and did what they could do (and continue to do so). And most importantly to those who have experienced loss and trauma I send you empathy, I send you love and I send you strength through the challenges ahead.

In regards to my business and my close knit team: a short summary is that while we lost 5 days of pre-Chirstmas trading - the building is untouched by fire and we are now open and trading as usual, feeling lucky that we have the business to return to. Josh and his Mum actively defended their homes and property with success other than some loss of garden, fences and a woodshed. Yvette evacuated her home and through the efforts of CFS and locals who stayed her home was saved - there is some damage to the veranda, fences and garden etc but she has been able to return to her home. Ben evacuated to a safer area but thankfully the fire did not end up reaching the town he lives in. I currently live in the Murraylands so I stay home with 2.5 year old Sammy to avoid the hills on a catastrophic fire rating days. My brother and parents live in Gumeracha/Kenton Valley and they stayed to defend the family farm and assist in the community - they remain unburnt but it will be a long summer of vigilance in the hopes they remain safe.

The last 3 weeks have been full of many challenges. There is so much more I would like to say but that is not the purpose of this update. For now I will simply say we are open and trading as usual and we are quietly doing the things we can to help within our community - so if you (or someone you know) needs something which we can help with please don't hesitate to ask. The journey to healing and rebuilding is not always easy and we will assist those who we can. One step at a time.
I am grateful to be a part of such a wonderful community who yet again pull together when the need is great.

With love from
Shannon Cornish.

Visitors to our 2019 SALA exhibition were invited to vote in the "Peoples Choice Award" by nominating their favourite piece on display in our student exhibition. It seems that the taste of favourites was as diverse as the work on show with nearly every piece getting at least one vote if not more. However the overall winner was Susanne Sarre for the clever "Trilogy of Turtles" cuff featured in the photo above. Congratulations Susanne!

Well now that’s one unique toothpick holder box. Handmade in sterling silver by a student in our jewellery classes. Rather stunning. (Correction - it’s a needle case 😊)
