Science Week 2026
Our junior scientists spent the week observing, noticing, predicting, questioning and discovering. Four year olds are naturally curious and they love exploring materials and conducting experiments to understand the world and how things work.

It was wonderful to hear the excited chatter as they shared their wonderings, ideas and findings with each other as they experimented.
“Look at the colour I made!”
“I made my jar erupt!”
“I think I know why that happened!”
“What will happen if I mix these together?”
“How did you do that?”

A highlight of the week was a visit from the Year 5/6 class from Lenswood Primary School who visited the Green group to do a special science experiment with them. Collaborating, wondering and experimenting together is what makes science so much fun!

The Blue Group enjoyed our second visit this term to the Love Woodside Community Garden. After our introduction to the garden two weeks ago, today the children checked on the growth of familiar plants, explored the garden beds, used all their senses to examine plants, noticed lots of bees, bugs and snails, listened to a story in the garden and recorded our observations in our journals. We also loved following the path to discover the (toy) animals in the trees. Today we learned Koala is Kuula in Kaurna language! Love Woodside SA

Today we had a Pupil Free Day, where the staff engaged in professional learning and a review of our Reconciliation Action Plan. We spent the morning at Yitpi Yartapuultiku which is a great cultural centre where you can learn more about Kaurna culture. It also has a fantastic playground where children can explore nature play and could make a great school holiday excursion. There is also a cafe featuring snacks with indigenous flavours! (And the staff may have indulged in morning tea!)

Yitpi Yartapuultiku meaning ‘Soul of Port Adelaide’ in Kaurna was opened in June 2025.

Located on the corner of Old Bower Road and Port Road in Port Adelaide, Yitpi Yartapuultiku is an Aboriginal Cultural Destination, years in the making. Since its inception, this innovative project has worked to establish a unique cultural connection within our local community, while creating a destination where people from all backgrounds can share, learn and experience our rich heritage.

From 5 – 12 July, Australians come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week, to recognise the rich history, diverse cultures, and the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's theme "50 Years of Deadly" marks a significant milestone, celebrating five decades of NAIDOC Week and honouring the Elders, leaders, artists, advocates, and communities whose strength, resilience, and pride have shaped this movement.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for everyone to learn about First Nations histories and cultures, celebrate the world's oldest continuous living cultures, and support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by participating in events and activities across the country.

In 2027 we will offer 4 year old preschool, Occasional Care and Playgroup.
In 2028, 3 Year old Preschool starts at Woodside.

Thank you to everyone who joined in and contributed to our annual kindy Wheel-a-thon.

After a cool and foggy start, the children quickly warmed their bodies up by completing many laps of the circuit on bikes, scooters and trikes. It was wonderful to see the persistence and stamina of children (and their parents and grandparents!) as they rode, scootered and walked around the track together.
This event is always a highlight of the kindy year and it is a meaningful way to promote healthy lifestyles, well-being, community spirit and active citizenship.

There are many people we’d like to thank for helping to make the day a huge success :

- The Kerber family (Woodside Providore) for providing coffee and the BBQ to fuel our energetic riders, families and teachers.
- Benjamin and Rebecca Radecki (Bike SA) for challenging our riders on their tricky ramp circuit and donating helmets and drink bottles for participants.
- Soldiers from the 16th Regiment Royal Australian Artillery who brought an army vehicle for us to explore and admire.
- Balhannah Butchers who donated sausages for our lunch. And a big shout out to Amy Colmer for running around and helping us organise the day.
- Poppy Ray for bringing his cool bikes and trikes for us to ride.
- A big thank you to our wonderful parents and families who cooked sausages, handed out stickers, assisted children as they rode around the track, cheered everyone on and supported us with donations.

And finally thank you to our Woodside Preschool children for bringing their can-do, positive attitudes on the day. We were so pleased to see everyone having a go and joining in with big smiles on their faces 🙂 We hope everyone had a good sleep last night!
