Book Week at Woodhill State School!

A huge thank you to our parents for helping our students with their amazing costumes last Friday! Our staff also put in a fantastic effort, making it a wonderful end to the week, celebrating all things books and reading.

Some of our students shared the joy of reading with the C&K kindy kids, while half the school was busy on the hunt for Where’s Woody, the Woodhill dog? Classes created fantastic door decorations, and students also put their creativity to work designing a book cover for Woody.

And, of course, there has been plenty of reading happening in classrooms too!

A big thank you to our students and staff for making Book Week such a fun celebration of books, stories and reading!

This week’s behaviour focus is: Be Responsible – Use the High-5!
Being responsible means making safe and respectful choices, even when things don’t go our way. If someone says or does something that bothers us, remember the High-5: Ignore, Walk Away, Talk Friendly, Talk Firmly, Report. Let’s practise using these steps to solve problems calmly and take responsibility for our own behaviour.

A SINCERE THANK YOU TO MARK TOOKEY!

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mark Tookey, Warriors Community Manager, for delivering our Warriors Inspire Logan Rugby League sessions for our Year 3–6 students this term.

These sessions have provided our students with much more than opportunities to develop their Rugby League skills. Mark has placed a strong focus on respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy habits, encouragement, inclusion, leadership and school spirit, creating a positive and supportive environment for all.

It has been wonderful to see our students build confidence, friendships, teamwork and resilience, while increasing their physical activity and developing an understanding of healthy lifestyles. The program has also provided positive goals to work towards and opportunities for students to participate, contribute and represent their school with pride.
Mark, we greatly appreciate the time, energy and commitment you have given to our students and school community. Your positive approach and genuine connection with our students have made a meaningful difference.

Thank you for inspiring our students to become positive teammates, confident leaders and proud members of our school community.

This week’s focus: Respecting Others When They Make Mistakes!

Mistakes are a normal and important part of learning. At Woodhill State School, we want every student to feel safe to have a go, share an answer, ask a question and try again—even when they get it wrong.

Woodhill State School year 6 leaders attended Flagstone State School last week to engage in a Leadership networking day. Well done, everyone.

There's a saying that 'leaders aren't born, they are made'. And they are made just like anything else - through hard work!

This was my message to these fantastic school leaders at today's 'Lead the Way - Year 6 Student Leadership Networking Day'.

Each one of these young people has stepped up for their school community and we should acknowledge them, celebrate them and help them to make the most of their leadership journey.

Well done to Flagstone State School, Jimboomba State School (Education Dept. Approved), Gleneagle State School and Woodhill State School on providing this wonderful opportunity for their student leaders.

NED is at Woodhill! Today, our students were inspired by the NED Show and its powerful message:

💪 Never Give Up – keep going, even when something feels difficult.
🤝 Encourage Others – use your words and actions to lift others up.
⭐ Do Your Best – give things a go and be proud of your effort.

We were able to welcome NED to Woodhill at no cost to our school through the NED Show’s Pay It Forward program. We invite families to help us pay it forward to the next school, by purchasing a NED yoyo.

Students can purchase a NED yoyo from Woodhill State School, with the proceeds helping another school experience the NED Show at no cost, just as we have.

🪀 Yoyos will be available for purchase in the library before (8.30am-8.45am) and after school 3.00-3.30pm) on these days:
• Wednesday 19 August
• Friday 21 August
• Monday 24 August
• Friday 28 August

Every yoyo purchased helps spread the NED message to another school - Never Give Up. Encourage Others. Do Your Best.
