Last Friday, our Year 7 students took part in our annual Deep Time History Immersion Day, learning from First Nations educators and exploring connection to Country 🖤💛❤️

Our students engaged in traditional technologies, ochre painting and weaving, discovering how these practices have shaped and sustained Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures for thousands of years 🎨🧵🌿

The day offered a meaningful opportunity to deepen their understanding of Australia’s rich First Nations histories, cultures and knowledge systems through hands‑on learning and cultural storytelling ✨🤝

🧪 Science Week 2026 🧫

If it bubbled, puzzled or tasted good… it happened this Science Week! Each day brought hands‑on discovery, curiosity and plenty of smiles as students explored the theme of seeds, reactions, culture and problem‑solving.

🌱 Monday – Seed Match Challenge
Students put their observation skills to the test, matching seeds of all shapes and sizes, and looking a little closer at the natural world around them.

🔍 Tuesday – Seed Scavenger Hunt
Seed images were hidden across campus, and students raced to find as many as they could before swapping their discoveries for prizes.

🍬 Wednesday – Sweet Science: Sherbet Making
Students explored acid-base reactions by making sherbet – learning the science behind the fizz while enjoying a tasty treat.

🫖 Thursday – Tea Tasting
Students discovered how science, culture and native plants connect, tasting native teas and learning how First Nations peoples have long used plants and seeds for food and flavour.

🧩 Friday – Escape Room
Eight mini puzzles, one final code – students used teamwork, speed and clever thinking to crack the challenge and claim their prize (bragging rights too!)

A huge thank you to our Science Ambassadors: Genevieve D, Lily J, Maddie J, Lillian B, Emileigh C and Chloe W for their enthusiasm and hard work throughout the week, and to our incredible Science Department staff for bringing these activities to life 🔬💚🙌

Bullying? NO WAY!! 🙅‍♀️

This week was Bullying No Way Week at SMC! 💜🧡

Our Wellbeing Team organised a range of activities to raise awareness, promote kindness and support those who may be affected by bullying.

They also teamed up with our Journalism and Media (JAM) Team to create a fun and meaningful video explaining the purpose of Bullying No Way Week 🎥 Students and staff proudly wore badges to show their support 🟣

On Wednesday, some of our wonderful students chalked messages of kindness near our College front gate, greeting everyone with positivity and smiles 😊 They shared messages like “🐝 Kind!” and “Everyone deserves respect! 💐” A simple but powerful reminder of the impact small acts can have.

Our main event was the Pledge Poster - our staff and students traced their hands and wrote a personal pledge of kindness they would commit to. The finished poster was displayed around the College, reflecting this year’s anti-bullying theme: Small Acts, Big Impact 🙌

It was so fulfilling to see the smiles, laughter and enthusiasm from everyone who got involved. Thank you to all students and staff for making Bullying No Way Week such a positive and meaningful experience ☺️🫶

And remember: everyone deserves respect, always 💜🧡
