It's about time I post about my new modality I am adding to my tool box, and it's not just bodywork this time.
I came across Hanna somatics for myself about 2 years ago. the results for my own body are astonishing. I used to see my osteopath regularly. Well I don't anymore, my body is changing still, for the better.
Here is where I need to explain a bit more about what Hanna somatics is.
As I said, it's not bodywork.
We work with habitual holding patterns in the body that create and hold shortening of muscles and ligaments, no matter what the reason behind is. Because they have become a habit, the brain now gives messages that these muscles are being held now in this shortened way and there is no recognition that it's an unnatural holding.
Specific movements of certain body parts are made and repeated 3 times so the neuro pathways to and from the brain become re educated and the proper messages can now come through to these specific muscles.
This applies for both humans and animals.
What I find very exciting, and can attest to in my own body, is that over time we are able to rectify the problem and not just work with the symptomatic parts of the body.
The difference between human and animal Hanna somatics is how we are working with it.
The human can learn the exercise and do it on their own.
The animal (I specifically don't say horse because it applies to all animals) needs our help in retraining these neuro pathways, but the outcome is the same, the ability of the brain to recognise 'normal' lengthening of muscles and ligaments.
I am working with both, humans and horses because I have started the human training as well.

Some of you know that i am expanding my knowledge bank again. I started to train in Equine Hannah Somatics (and soon human somatic exercises as well).
It is very different to any form of bodywork, because it really isn't.
it is the re-education of our brain.the part of the brain that's responsible to tell our muscles how to behave (shorten or lengthen and how long). horses have habitual holding patterns just like we do, whatever the reason for this is.
EHS retrains that part of the brain to be able to use the muscles as they were intended to originally.
I really get blown away by results I see even after one session of working with the horse.
The photo is of an arab cross standarbred. he couldn't stand square and his legs were so base narrow he had a wound on the left hind fetlock from hitting it with the other foot.
we had one session and I just went for the second session when i saw him standing much more square, both front and hinds had much more space between them and the wound had healed over, indicating he wasn't hitting his fetlock anymore.
first 2 photos are before his first session, last one when i got there before his second.
I have permission of owner to share.

It’s encoded in their DNA to want and need to be with other members of their species.

If you are one of the many who thinks your horse does not like other horses, please try to accept that you are mistaking the results of unnatural horse care - trauma and neuroses - for a personality trait.

Horses like this may need extra time to acclimate and adjust - across the fence - but it is a healing process that can happen with the most aggressive and rank acting horses who have been isolated and confined for much of their lives.
