It's about time I post about my new modality I am adding to my tool box, and it's not just bodywork this time.
I came across Hanna somatics for myself about 2 years ago. the results for my own body are astonishing. I used to see my osteopath regularly. Well I don't anymore, my body is changing still, for the better.
Here is where I need to explain a bit more about what Hanna somatics is.
As I said, it's not bodywork.
We work with habitual holding patterns in the body that create and hold shortening of muscles and ligaments, no matter what the reason behind is. Because they have become a habit, the brain now gives messages that these muscles are being held now in this shortened way and there is no recognition that it's an unnatural holding.
Specific movements of certain body parts are made and repeated 3 times so the neuro pathways to and from the brain become re educated and the proper messages can now come through to these specific muscles.
This applies for both humans and animals.
What I find very exciting, and can attest to in my own body, is that over time we are able to rectify the problem and not just work with the symptomatic parts of the body.
The difference between human and animal Hanna somatics is how we are working with it.
The human can learn the exercise and do it on their own.
The animal (I specifically don't say horse because it applies to all animals) needs our help in retraining these neuro pathways, but the outcome is the same, the ability of the brain to recognise 'normal' lengthening of muscles and ligaments.
I am working with both, humans and horses because I have started the human training as well.
