Water, brush, colour, light…
a quiet invitation to see like Monet.

In the Bilbies room, a love for Claude Monet has begun to unfold, sparked by stories of his garden and the little Japanese bridge.

Blue and purple spread slowly across the page,
colours drifting, blending, softening at the edges.
A brush moves, pauses, returns again.

There is no rush to finish,
only time to notice — how water carries colour,
how light sparkles.

The space holds a quiet echo of Monet’s world —
soft fabric, gentle light, a suggestion of water and reflection.

Here, children are not asked to copy,
but to feel, to explore, to respond.

Through experiences like this, children engage in experimentation and inquiry — testing ideas, observing changes, and developing a deeper understanding of how materials, colour, and water work together.

Children’s interests often emerge in the most spontaneous and magical ways. Recently, through conversations, a fascination with mermaids and all things magical began to grow within the Wombats room.

In response, educators created a vibrant and textured mermaid ocean an inviting space filled with colour, sparkle, and sensory elements to inspire imagination and storytelling.

The Wombats have been deeply engaged in exploring oral storytelling during recharge time, using puppets and a variety of resources to bring their ideas to life. This has sparked a wonderful sense of curiosity, with many children eager to create and share their own stories.

To support this growing interest, and to align with our focus on nature and living things, educators have introduced a playdough exploration. This hands-on experience invites children to mould and create elements from the natural world, inspiring their storytelling in a tactile and imaginative way.

In the Bilbies room, the children noticed something important — there was no Bundjil watching over their space like in the Wombats room.

Together, a decision was made to create their own. Using a cardboard template as a base, the children added rainbow handprints, each one a mark of belonging, of identity, of care. Slowly, Bundjil began to take shape through their hands and ideas.

Now, Bundjil hangs from the ceiling — watching, holding, and reminding us of the Boonwurrung people's connection to Bundjil.

A shared creation, led by the children, now part of the rhythm of the room.

Through experiences like this, children learn that their ideas matter — building a strong sense of identity, creativity, and connection to the world and Country around them.

What a special visit our 4year old Kindergarten children shared with our friends at Rose Lodge Aged Care recently.

The children moved with quiet care and growing awareness, showing respect and empathy. In the activity room, creativity became a bridge—what began as quiet observation soon blossomed into smiles, laughter, and warm connection.

Intergenerational experiences like this support children to build empathy, confidence, and social understanding, while also bringing joy and a sense of purpose to our resie friends. It is a truly reciprocal relationship, where both generations feel seen, valued, and connected.

The Easter cards the children had lovingly made were shared with pride, and in return, small gifts were received—an exchange of kindness that filled the room with joy.

A beautiful reminder that when generations meet, everyone grows.

In our 3-year-old Kindergarten room and in the Bilbies room, Waa the crow is slowly coming to life, shaped by the children’s ideas and choices.

Since The Bundjil Nest Project conference, each time Waa is heard, we pause — a beautiful practice of slowing down and listening to Country.

In the 3-year-old Kindergarten room, the children drew around their hands on black paper, adding touches of gold for Waa’s glimmering shinning feathers — each print becoming part of Waa, each mark a reflection of their thinking.

In Bilbies, paper has been scrunched and fabrics layered, forming depth and movement as Waa begins to emerge.

There is no single way to create: only many ways to see, to feel, and to understand.

In these moments, children lead the work, unhurried, thoughtful, and deeply connected. A quiet rhythm of making, listening, and being.

In our Possums room, Harmony Week was explored through gentle, shared creation, supported by our dedicated Possums team.

The children gathered leaves from the yard, carefully pasting them in a circle on orange paper — a simple reflection of coming together and belonging.

Alongside this, orange playdough was introduced. With people cutters, educators and the children working side by side, shaping little figures to complete the circle.

Through these small, meaningful moments, children begin to understand connection, inclusion, and what it means to be part of a community.

Our 3-year-old kindergarten children created a small drinking place for butterflies, bees, and birds — a tray of water nestled in stones, with a branch for resting.
