Our NAIDOC Week celebrations kicked off yesterday with our secondary students participating in some fantastic activities. From designing their own piece of unique sand art, to creating a bush tool using resin and then using lemon myrtle & wattleseed to make some delectable shortbread, the students were amazed, engaged & enjoyed learning new skills and exploring our region's proud indigenous knowledge. Thank you to Mrs Booth & Miss Marshall for organising the day's activities and to Mr Shanks for coming in to help teach our students.

Last Friday, interested Year 7 & 8 students attended the WA College of Agriculture Cunderdin Open Day. Students did a full tour of the College with two Year 11 students and had the opportunity to see the trades, farm, classroom and residential facilities. Students were very impressed with the calibre of projects being made by students in the trades areas. Students can complete a Vocational or ATAR pathway with a wide range of Certificate level courses on offer in Agriculture, Automotive, Construction, Engineering or Furniture Making. Students also have the opportunity to complete a range of other Certificate level courses in Shearing, Wool Handling & Pork Production, as well as a number of short courses such as Construction White Card, Loader & Skid Steer Tickets, Drone License and low stress stock handling. Students were reminded on the day that applications for enrolment should be submitted before the end of Year 8, given the demand for places at the College. The most critical aspect for successful entry is student attitude and they look very closely at ABE ratings on student reports and the comments. Our students had a great day and we welcomed two of our parents & their children who met us there and walked around with us for the day. We would strongly encourage parents to attend Open Days of prospective schools with their children to make the most informed decisions about future schooling opportunities.

This weekend sees Alivia and Paolo along with 22 other cadets from around the state attend the 2026 WAFES conference. They’ve just heard from keynote speaker Jessica Watson OAM. They will be attending other workshops throughout the day finishing with a cultural tour and dinner at the Atrium. They are making the most of the opportunity that was provided by the DFES Youth team to attend.

A very special congratulations to our wonderful Chaplain, Phillip Glossop!

We are incredibly proud to see Phil named as a finalist in the 2026 Governor’s Chaplaincy Awards!

Anyone in our school community who knows Phil will understand just how well deserved this recognition is. His kindness, compassion, humour and genuine care for our students, staff and families are woven into the fabric of our school. Whether he is offering a listening ear, quietly supporting someone through a difficult time, joining in with school activities or simply making someone’s day a little brighter, Phil is always there. (Often with a pack of uno cards, a table tennis bat or a pancake flip)

Phil, we hope you know just how much you are valued and appreciated at Wongan Hills DHS. We are 100% behind you and couldn’t be prouder to call you our Chaplain.

Congratulations on being named a finalist, Phil — you’re already a winner in our eyes!

We're pretty sure that the best place to be for the last hour of the week is the School Garden! Today's helpers, Mrs Hood & Safira, helped the garden team get through loads of spring jobs:
🫐 New blueberry bushes were planted, while we're waiting for the current crop to ripen
🍅 Tomatoes were planted & the🥔potatoes were mulched
👨‍🌾 The high schoolers pitched in to help w**d, rake & spread woodchips
🥗 Lettuces were planted, as were more flowers 🌷 (of course)!
🧺 Harvest time was abundant, with carrots, leeks, spring onions, broccoli & cabbage all ready to be turned into someone's dinner! 🥕🥦

Our Kindy and Pre-Primary crew welcomed some very special visitors this afternoon for an early Father’s Day celebration — and we’re pleased to report they survived (the visitors that is).

Socks were flying in the great bucket-to-bucket sock toss,
Dads (and other willing participants) were put through their paces on the obstacle course,
Some serious block-building skills were demonstrated,
Pretend shaving took place with shaving foam and pop sticks — thankfully, no actual razors were involved!
Hot dogs provided some much-needed recovery fuel,
And, just in case anyone had forgotten their official title, World’s Best Dad hats were lovingly created.

Thank you to all the dads, grandads, mums, nannas, uncles and sisters and other special people in our young people’s lives who came along and joined in the fun.

Our little people absolutely loved having you at school — and judging by the smiles, we think the big people had a pretty good time too!

Happy Father’s Day for Sunday — we hope you’re thoroughly spoilt!

A rather large photo dump ahead - but worth it for the memories.

Spring is here and our Mega Playground is blossoming…with creativity, imagination and positivity!

We have a full-blown ancient civilisation taking shape, complete with archaeological digs in progress!

Alongside this, there are plenty of other happy, energetic individuals creating, exploring, building and simply enjoying being kids.

It’s wonderful to see our students using their imagination, working together and turning a space into something truly special.

Who knows what they’ll build next?
