We'd like to thank Rebecca Ellis, Business Manager at Workplace Learning. Rebecca is a class of 2012 graduate, who recently visited her alma mater. She shared her experiences at school and her post-school pathways with Year 9 students. Rebecca provided insight into how her subjects and extracurricular activities developed skills that benefited her after graduation. She encouraged students to make the most of the opportunities offered at school.

During her school years, Rebecca participated in the Tournament of Minds, drama, and Mock Trials, which helped her build transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and critical and creative thinking.

The Year 9 students greatly appreciated what Rebecca shared. Aden, a Year 9 student, said, “I really loved how she spoke about all the school and extracurricular activities she took part in during high school, and how they benefited her and contributed to her 'soft skills.'”

We are overjoyed to announce that Year 12 student, Freya, has been awarded one of just 25 prestigious Tuckwell Scholarships nationwide for 2027!

Freya stood out from hundreds of applicants across Australia, progressing through multiple selection stages and earning a personal interview among the final fifty. Reflecting on this experience, Freya shared:

“Being awarded the Tuckwell Scholarship is an incredible honour, and one that I am immensely grateful for. The interview weekend at the Australian National University was a truly memorable experience, giving me the opportunity to meet inspiring students from across Australia who shared a genuine passion for leadership, learning and making a difference in their communities. What stood out most, however, was the warmth and generosity of the current Tuckwell Scholars, who created such a welcoming and supportive environment that not only helped to ease pre-interview nerves but enabled me to easily picture myself as part of their community. Receiving the scholarship means the opportunity to be challenged, supported and surrounded by people who will inspire me to grow both personally and professionally. My time at Smith’s Hill High School has undoubtedly shaped this journey, and I am incredibly grateful for the continual support I received from the school, particularly Mr Parmar, in helping me realise this opportunity.”

Congratulations, Freya!

We're delighted to celebrate Year 11 student Audrey's incredible achievement through her participation in the NSW Youth Parliament program during the July school holidays.

Audrey spent an inspiring week at Parliament House in Sydney, dedicating full days as part of her NSW Youth Parliament scholarship. Assigned to the Women's Affairs portfolio, her team developed and presented the Specialised Domestic and Family Violence Response Youth Bill 2026.

In a remarkable outcome, their proposed amendments were passed with an overwhelming vote of 50 Ayes to 1 No! Audrey also had the unique opportunity to speak from the parliamentary podium during the debates.

This experience has given Audrey a deeper understanding of the legislative process and a renewed passion for civic engagement. We are incredibly proud of her dedication and success and pleased to share this inspiring story with our school community.

🎉 Congratulations to our newly elected student leaders! 🎉

Last Friday, we held a formal assembly to induct these outstanding students into their leadership roles. We are incredibly proud to welcome them as they take on this important responsibility.

Being chosen as a student leader is a longstanding honour in our school community. These roles are vital in representing the student body, fostering school spirit, and driving initiatives that enhance our learning environment. We look forward to seeing your leadership in action and the positive changes you will bring throughout the year.

Our newly elected SRC and House Captains attended leadership camp at the start of this term. Over the two days students were immersed in outdoor and indoor activities that help build teamwork, communication and many other leadership skills. Time was also spent in discussions and planning around refining events and initiatives that are run throughout the year.

It was very special to have our guest speakers, Isabelle (School Captain 2024/25) and Freya and Atticus (School Captains 2025/26) to impart their wisdom from their experiences as student leaders. The new student leaders came away inspired and excited for the year ahead!
