The children were excited to welcome Vanessa, a Kindergarten teacher from Woonona East Public School, who visited us this morning. Her visit provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to begin building familiarity and confidence about starting "big school."

Vanessa spent time answering the children's thoughtful questions about Kindergarten, including what a typical school day looks like, what they will learn, and some of the fun activities they can look forward to. The children were eager to share their own ideas and experiences, leading to meaningful discussions about the similarities and differences between daycare and school. This helped to ease some of their uncertainties while encouraging excitement for this important transition.

Vanessa then read the story Big School, which sparked further conversations about starting school, making new friends, following routines, and becoming more independent. The children listened attentively and enthusiastically contributed their thoughts throughout the story.

Before leaving, Vanessa joined the children for a fun game of Colour Eye Spy. Taking turns, the children stood at the front of the group and gave colour clues while everyone worked together to guess different objects around the room. The game encouraged turn-taking, observation, listening skills, and confidence in speaking in front of a group, while also creating a relaxed and enjoyable opportunity for the children to interact with their future teacher.

It was a valuable and engaging visit that supported the children's school readiness by helping them develop positive connections with their local school and gain a better understanding of what to expect when they begin their Kindergarten journey. We thank Vanessa for taking the time to visit and look forward to seeing her again in the future.

On the 23rd of April, we were thrilled to welcome two representatives from Corrimal RSL to visit us here at Coolgardie and help the children learn about and honour the importance of ANZAC Day, which is coming up soon.

When our special visitors arrived, the Dolphins joined us in the Seahorse room, where everyone put on their listening ears and showed wonderful respect and attention throughout the visit. The children did an amazing job being patient, engaged, and respectful while learning from our guests.

David and Henri shared information about their medals, hats, and bugle, and even taught the children how to march. The children were very excited to have the opportunity to try on the hats and attempt to play the bugle themselves. They also learnt about the Last Post, the significance of ANZAC biscuits, and why Australian soldiers wear the traditional Slouch Hat before participating in our formal service.

As part of the experience, the children stood together for a minute of silence to show their respect and gratitude. To thank our visitors for taking the time to spend the morning with us, we presented them with ANZAC biscuits and beautiful posters created by each room, which will now be proudly displayed in the front window of the RSL club.

A huge thank you to David and Henri for visiting us today and helping create such a meaningful and memorable experience for the children

On the 2nd of April our school leavers had a wonderful opportunity to walk to Bellambi Public School to take part in their Easter Hat Parade. With the support of our amazing parent helpers, the children also enjoyed seeing a variety of animals at Corrimal High along the way.

Upon arriving at Bellambi Public School, the children waited excitedly for their turn to showcase their creative Easter hats as they proudly walked in the parade. Afterwards, they enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch, sharing an assortment of sandwiches, before making their way back to Preschool.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who helped make today’s excursion such a special and memorable experience.

How We Celebrated Harmony Day

The Seahorse Room celebrated Harmony Day by reading a story about being equal followed by a fun dance party with orange balloons.

The Dolphin Room enjoyed a variety of activities using orange balloons, including painting, dancing, and working together to balance the balloons on a parachute.

The Starfish Room explored a range of orange-themed experiences, such as sensory play with orange rice and creative movement with orange balloons and ribbons.

This week, Coolgardie celebrated Valentine's Day across all three rooms with meaningful and creative experiences. In the Seahorse Room (3–5 years), the children expressed their understanding of love through drawing. As they created their pictures, they responded to the question, “What makes me feel loved?” It was heart-warming to hear their thoughtful answers, with many children sharing that family and friends make them feel safe, happy, and cared for. These conversations encouraged self-reflection and helped the children recognise the important relationships in their lives.

In the Dolphin Room (2–3 years) and Starfish Room (0–2 years), the children celebrated by engaging in love heart arts and crafts. They explored different colours by choosing a heart-shaped stamp, dipping it into paint, and pressing it onto paper to create beautiful heart collages. This hands-on activity supported their creativity, fine motor development, and sensory exploration, while also introducing the concept of love in a fun and age-appropriate way. Throughout the week, the celebrations focused on kindness, connection, and helping every child feel valued and loved within our Coolgardie community.
