🌿 Introducing the Fables Community Shelf! 🌿
We’re excited to begin introducing a little community initiative here at Fables on the Mountain! 💚
Our children have been working hard to establish and care for our worm farm, and we’ve now reached the point where we have an overflow of worm wee — so rather than letting it go to waste, we’d love to share it with our local community! 🪱🌱
While we wait for a proper community shelf to be built, we’ve popped some worm wee out in a milk crate at the front of the centre for local community members to take and use in their gardens.
🌱 Please take what you need!
This is just the beginning. As our vegetable garden and bush tucker garden continue to develop, we hope to extend what we can offer on our community shelf — sharing produce, garden resources and other goodies with our local community.
🛠️ We’d also love your help!
If anyone in our local community enjoys building and would like to make us a simple outdoor, weatherproof shelf, or happens to have one at home that they no longer need and would be happy to donate, we would be incredibly grateful!
We’re hoping this can grow into something that connects our children with the wider community and encourages sharing, sustainability and caring for our little patch of the mountain. 🌿💚
Keep an eye out as our Fables Community Shelf grows! 🌱🪱
🎃🥣 From a sandpit conversation to a kitchen full of pumpkin soup!
Our latest Fables Family Flavours experience began with a beautiful conversation in the sandpit, when one of our children shared all about her Grammy’s delicious pumpkin soup. 💛
We loved hearing about her family tradition, so we invited Grammy to come in and cook her famous pumpkin soup with us! The children helped prepare the ingredients, mix, cook and, of course, enjoy the finished soup together. 👩🍳✨
We love when children’s conversations and family experiences become the starting point for meaningful learning. What started as a simple conversation turned into a special opportunity to share family, food, culture and connection with our Fables community. ❤️
Thank you to our wonderful Grammy for coming in and sharing your pumpkin soup with us! 🎃
✨ A new chapter for Fables on the Mountain ✨
Years of planning have finally come to life. 💛
As a heritage-listed building, this project has been a long journey, with careful planning to preserve the character of our beautiful centre while creating a more welcoming and accessible space for our families.
Construction began in March with the removal of the trees, and now, five months later, we’re so excited to reveal the finished result! 🌿
Our new entrance features a disability access ramp, a beautiful bush tucker garden, and a fresh new look with updated paint, creating a warm and inviting arrival for our children, families and community.
We’re incredibly proud of this transformation and grateful to everyone who helped bring this vision to life. We can’t wait to continue making memories in a space that honours our history while embracing the future. 🤎✨
🦷DENTAL HEALTH WEEK 🪥
This week we’re celebrating the importance of healthy smiles and building positive oral health habits from an early age.
On Tuesday 4th August, our children enjoyed a visit from the Mobile Dentist, where they had the opportunity to learn about caring for their teeth in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. Experiences like these help children become familiar with dental visits, build confidence and reinforce the importance of brushing, healthy eating and looking after their smiles every day. 😁🪥
A big thank you to the Oral on the Go team for visiting our service and helping make oral health education such a positive experience for our children! 💙

🐣 A very special new beginning 🐣
These aren’t just any chicks… they’re the next generation of our very own flock. 💛
Back in March last year, we incubated and hand-raised our first group of chicks here at the centre. The children watched them hatch, cared for them as they grew, and learned so much throughout the journey.
Sadly, our hens and rooster were recently taken by foxes. It was heartbreaking for everyone who had watched them grow over the past year.
Fortunately, we had collected five eggs the evening before. We quickly placed them into the incubator, hoping for the very best… and yesterday we were delighted to welcome four healthy chicks into the world! 🐥✨
What began as a difficult loss has become a beautiful lesson in resilience, hope and the incredible cycle of life. Over the coming weeks, the children will once again have the opportunity to observe, care for and learn from these little ones as they grow.
We’re so excited to begin this journey all over again. 🌿💛

🎨 Creativity is contagious! 🐷💛
Lately, our children have been loving interpretive drawing, using their own ideas and observations to create pictures for their peers to enjoy. What began as one child’s creative idea has quickly become a favourite experience, with children drawing their own stencils for others to trace, paint and colour.
To continue exploring our farm animal focus, one of our talented artists carefully drew a pig, which educators copied into stencils for everyone to use. It was wonderful to see the children sharing their ideas, inspiring one another and taking pride in seeing their artwork become part of a group experience.
These spontaneous moments foster creativity, confidence, collaboration and a strong sense of belonging as children learn from and alongside one another. 🐷🎨✨
💙 The verdict is in… according to our little footy experts, the Blues have this one in the bag! 🏉
Our children have made their State of Origin Game III predictions, and it’s a clean sweep for NSW! 💙 From confident score predictions to plenty of “Go the Blues!” chants, the excitement is definitely building around the service.
Now it’s over to the Blues to prove our little supporters right! 💙
Come on NSW! 🔥

🇫🇮🥞 We took a trip to Finland today… one pancake at a time!
As part of our Fables Family Flavours experience, the children helped make traditional Finnish lettu. From measuring and mixing the ingredients to watching them cook, our little chefs were involved every step of the way.
The children were also excited to learn some Finnish from Mummi, eagerly asking how to say words such as “hello” and “thank you” and practising them throughout the experience.
Food is such a wonderful way to explore different cultures, spark conversations and bring people together. Of course, the highlight of the experience was the taste test, and it’s safe to say the lettu was a big hit! 😋
What a delicious way to learn about the world around us. 💛🌍
