đŸŒ§ïž Rainy days don’t stop the fun at The Secret Garden Preschool! đŸŒ§ïž

The rain came again today and we were stuck inside for the morning, but that didn’t stop us from having an amazing day together!

The children enjoyed lots of dramatic play as we transformed our home corner into a beautiful little cafĂ©. The teachers made menus and set up yummy cakes and croissants for the children to serve to their friends. There were lots of smiles, role play, and wonderful conversations happening as the children took turns being cafĂ© workers and customers. We even heard some French words being used, including “bonjour,” which means hello in French! đŸ‡«đŸ‡·â˜•đŸ„

Later in the morning, we played a very exciting game of “The Floor is Lava!” The teachers placed coloured dots around the room and the children danced around the tables until the music stopped, then quickly found a coloured dot to stand on. There were lots of giggles and excitement as everyone joined in. The children loved the game so much they wanted to keep playing, but before we knew it, it was almost lunchtime!

After lunch, we were very lucky to get a little break in the rain and finally enjoy some time outside. The children were so excited to run, explore, and play outdoors again after spending the last two days mostly inside. đŸŒ€ïžđŸ’š

Even with the rainy weather, we have still had so much fun together today at The Secret Garden Preschool!

All set up outside for our Little Learners today!

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget

This morning, the children engaged in a meaningful learning experience as we read the story Anzac Day, which tells of a mother and young girl baking Anzac biscuits while reflecting on a soldier’s experiences during the war. As the story unfolded, the children discovered that the soldier was the father and husband of the family, helping them make a personal connection to the meaning of remembrance.
We had thoughtful discussions about Anzac Day, focusing on remembering and honouring those who have served our country. The children shared their ideas and showed curiosity as we explored these important concepts together.
Following the story, Miss Trin supported the children in making their own Anzac biscuits. The children eagerly took turns measuring, pouring, and stirring, working collaboratively to create a delicious mixture. We look forward to enjoying our biscuits later today after morning tea—what a wonderful way to connect storytelling with a real-life experience.
During outdoor play, we extended this learning by setting up an Anzac biscuit messy sensory tub. The children explored a mixture inspired by our baking experience, using their hands and tools to scoop, mix, and create. This sensory experience encouraged creativity, exploration, and further connection to the morning’s learning.

This morning at The Secret Garden, the children enjoyed a hands-on and sensory-rich day full of creativity and exploration 🌿

Our pancake sensory tray was a big hit! Using flour, water, food colouring, a hint of orange essential oil, and sprinkles, the children eagerly mixed and experimented with different textures. With whisks, spoons, and scoops in hand, they explored how adding more water changed the consistency from thick to runny. This experience supported the children’s understanding of cause and effect, early science concepts, and encouraged problem-solving as they tested their ideas. It also strengthened fine motor skills and invited rich sensory engagement through touch, smell, and sight.

Outside, the children created their own construction zone using wheelbarrows, hard hats, and kick bricks. They worked together to build structures, transport materials, and take on different roles within their play. This experience fostered teamwork, communication, and cooperation, while also supporting gross motor development and spatial awareness. The children were able to express their creativity and develop confidence as they brought their building ideas to life.

It was wonderful to see the children so engaged, curious, and collaborative this morning!
