At Aspire Wollert, we value and celebrate the ideas, interests, and thoughts of every child. Our Mind Map Book is an important tool that helps us capture children's voices, document their learning, and explore what sparks their curiosity.

🖤💛❤️ National Sorry Day & National Reconciliation Week ❤️💛🖤

Last Friday, our centre came together to acknowledge National Sorry Day and celebrate National Reconciliation Week with a special cultural incursion delivered by First Nations educators.

The children and educators participated in a range of engaging experiences that celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and traditions. Through storytelling, music, movement, and cultural learning, the children had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Australia's First Peoples and the importance of respect, inclusion, and connection.

We are grateful to our First Nations presenters for sharing their knowledge, culture, and stories with our centre community and helping us continue our journey towards reconciliation.

This week, the children focused on the letter H. The children enthusiastically decorated their own letter H using a variety of natural materials, exploring different textures while strengthening their fine motor skills and letter recognition.

Using natural materials encourages children to connect with their environment, explore sensory experiences, and develop creativity by using open-ended resources in unique ways. It also supports problem-solving skills and helps children gain an appreciation for the natural world around them.

The children also enjoyed a coral painting experience, where they used different colours and techniques to create beautiful ocean-inspired artwork. Through this activity, they explored colour, expressed their creativity, and developed their fine motor skills while learning about ocean environments.

Exploring the world around us in early childhood helps children develop curiosity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of their environment. At Aspire Wollert we believe puzzles provide many benefits in by supporting children’s cognitive, social, and physical development. As children complete puzzles, they build important problem-solving and critical thinking skills by learning how pieces fit together and exploring different strategies. Puzzles also help develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as children grasp, turn, and place pieces carefully. In addition, puzzles encourage concentration, patience, and persistence, helping children stay focused on a task and experience a sense of achievement when completed. Working on puzzles with others can also promote communication, teamwork, and social interaction.
