📢 Deaf Social Catch-Up: Everyone Welcome!

Come along and join the Albury-Wodonga Deaf Community for our catch-up!

This is a great chance to enjoy a sausage sizzle, have a chat in Auslan and spoken English, and make new friends.

Everyone is welcome; friends, family, and interpreters!

📍 Where: Brooklyn Fields Playground, Thurgoona

🌭 BBQ: We will be having a sausage sizzle! Please bring $2 per person to help cover the cost of sausages.

⚠️ Important Note: This event is weather-permitting. If it is raining, the catch-up will be postponed, and we will announce a new date later.

As there isn’t a kids’ playground, there will be a space available for children to play and for games and activities to be set up. If you’re bringing children, please feel free to bring along some games or activities to help keep them entertained. 😊

Frozen the musical will be at the Albury Entertainment Centre soon! And thanks to the Albury Wodonga Theatre Company it will be fully interpreted!

The interpreted performance is October 17th Saturday at 1pm. Just email [email protected] and ask for Auslan interpreted Frozen Tickets.

🤔Will people who are D/deaf or who are hard of hearing be removed from the NDIS?

The short answer is no, not at this stage.

But there are proposed changes that we believe our community needs to understand.

Under the Bill, participants would need to demonstrate substantially reduced functional impairment that is permanent and unable to be treated through alternative supports outside the NDIS.

We also expect the changes to tighten the definition of what can be classified as a permanent and significant impairment.

That's why Deafness Forum Australia is taking a cautious approach and advocating for the interests of people who are D/deaf or have hearing loss as the Bill progresses.
