We run free, catered and Goori focussed community language classes in the Nambucca Valley. We endeavour for Bulagan to be handed down the generations for them to have something to build on. Sure there’s ups and there’s downs,
But we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Marking three years of language delivery in the Valley this month.

We do it because we love our people
And we refuse to accept the bare minimum.

Our language can only be as strong as the Village it is in.

Thank you everyone for a great end of term Wednesday night.
The seasons do be changing and we are so excited for the future.

P.s Maam Giingana Gumbaynggirr School thanks for lending us some resources whilst we are in transition 🙏🏽🔥

Congratulations to our 2026 Under 18 Premiers, the Nambucca Roosters! Well done to all the young fullas, you played a great season, balancing your footy and your language commitments!

Shoutout to Player of the Match, Kalvin Buchanan, and try scorers Kenny Walker and Caleb Jarrett.

Also shoutout to the parents and families of these deadly winners. We know that these kids are a reflection of the village who is raising them.

Big love ❤️ we are beyond proud 🥹

Our language can be the soft nurturing touch like a warm hug from a family member.
It provides us with nourishment, reciprocity and love in good times and bad times.

It can provide insulation and some brief reprieve from the harshness of the colony and the world at large.

It is also an obligation and a duty.

We hope each week we can facilitate a space of warmth, understanding and unity.

Our Country doesn’t speak English.
And a dedication to complete and total immersion is the only thing that will enable our language to survive for generations to come.

Dreaming of the Goori society our forebears envisioned 100 years ago.

Thank you as always to our Young people at our Wednesday night classes who continue to week in, week out show up and step up for each other and our Goori language.

Thank you to our parents and community, we could not sustain this work without you mob

Yours in Unity always, Bulagan.

Over the past four weeks at our Friday beginner class, our amazing language apprentice, Jaawan Blacklock, has been teaching Gumbaygnirr to his peers from the Coffs Harbour Youth Rehab.

Last Friday night, we served kebabs cooked on the coals from Nambucca Valley Butchers. We also had grilled miso eggplant and red cabbage charred in the fire with lemon and butter.

Bulagan strongly believes that proximity to our languages is a strong mitigating factor against the school-to-prison pipeline and that the cycles of addiction are social diseases constructed under the milieu of the colony and capitalism.

We know that our languages provide healing and greater wellbeing outcomes to all involved in the process of learning.

We know that these systems profit off our people’s misery and destruction.

Our languages must be central to our people’s process of liberation and collective healing.

Thank you as always to the young fullas for stepping up and teaching, cleaning up around Ngurrala and for helping us wrap up the end of the night.

Thanks to for having us, Gawa Gary and Barran Deidre come to your show.

All up, another deadly Wednesday night!

Bulagan's work is built on decades of bilingualism and cross-cultural relationships.

We only exist because of those who came before us, including Mililma's mum, Sarah.

Sarah was a member of FILEF back in the mid-late 80s. Back in the 80s, FILEF's Sydney branch led by comrades like Roberto (pictured in the last photo) had an Italian Community Theatre Company where they wrote and directed plays about Immigrant struggles, workers struggles. and the struggles of Black Australia.

Sarah was interviewed by Vito on 3CR and you can listen back now on FILEF Radio (https://omny.fm/shows/radio-filef/radio-filef-5-august-2026).

We also caught up with who has also connections with FILEF Melbourne!

Sarah's story speaks to the importance of a world beyond English; a world where Italians and migrants and Blackfulla's learn eachothers' languages and share a meal.

The Goori Renaissance that we are striving for is a world of multilingualism, many cultures, and with the fundamental understanding that we are on Aboriginal Land.

This week was special and reminded us of the old days, the old ways and how things have always been; Gawa Gary and the young fullas around the fire.

Thank you for everyone who showed up for another wonderful Wednesday.

Staying cosy around the fire, waiting for our food.

Many hands make light work!

Beyond single phrases, beyond aberration, beyond our languages becoming stagnant artefacts; they must be alive, vibrant and flowing just like the rivers of our forebears.

A snippet from a yarn between Birrugan Dunn-Velasco and Mililma May.

yaam jawgarr maguurr garraa

Another deadly Wednesday night to mark the last week of school holidays. Lots of laughter, food and of course, Gumbaynggirr!

Thank you to our Language Apprentices for stepping up with enthusiasm, determination and empathy in your sessions.

For us as Language educators it is very inspiring to see the next wave of speakers/teachers in the making.

Shoutout to our head chef and CEO Birrugan Dunn-Velasco for putting on a delicious feed.
