For me, art is very grounding. It is a passion I can work on at home while being here with my boys. It is a way to show my kids that you can love your job. It is a way to bring people together and inspire and empower them. I am a self-taught mixed media artist, constantly learning new skills and sharing them by painting weekly and experimenting. I paint unintentionally, meaning that I don't have an idea of what I am going to paint when I sit down. I let the pencils and paint flow. For me, "Creative Abyss" means imagining and creating something from deep within. All my art has meaning. It is not just something pretty for your wall. It is inspired by womanhood, ancient mythology and the Blue Mountains. After finishing an artwork, I sit with it and wait to see what message needs to come through. This is what I want to pass on to other women to create community and connection. BEGINNINGS:

I have always been creative, enjoying painting for myself. In 2012 I did an online class for a year and honed my skills. This was my introduction to whimsical art and drawing faces. In 2016 I began teaching when parents of home schoolers from a weekly group I ran, asked if I would teach their kids privately. Popularity grew so I introduced holiday classes then weekly after school classes. Adults wanted to join in the fun so I started teaching weekly classes for women as well as monthly art journalling classes. After covid lockdown, when parents were prioritising family time, I started running family classes. I am constantly listening to my customers needs and creating classes to fit. This year I introduced Creative Alchemy, a term long class for women wanting to explore their creativity along side women's business, nature and Woo Woo. CLASSES:
I believe everyone is creative, you just need a little bit of courage and an encouraging, nurturing teacher to guide you.

My mission teaching kids is for them to be creative without the restraints put on them at school to colour in the lines or colour in their tree green or the whole class reproducing the same thing. I want them to use their imaginations and feel empowered by what they do. I want to give them the skills to create something amazing wherever they are and not rely on expensive materials. I want them to learn that it is ok to make mistakes. My mission teaching women is to give them the time and space to be themselves and not have anyone dependent on them. Women give so much of themselves and I want to encourage them to do something just for them. I want them to know they can create something from nothing. I want them to see that even if they think they aren't artistic, that they will leave feeling proud of what they have created. It is a place of no judgement. For families and couples, an art class is a beautiful way to spend quality time together making memories as well as having something beautiful to hang on your wall. It is a nice way to connect in your busy lives. WANT TO FIND OUT MORE? You can read more about my art and classes here www.creativeabyss.net

Abstract art doesn't have to make sense.

You don't have to understand it.

You don't have to work out what the artist was trying to say.

Sometimes you can just… look.

What catches your eye first?

Where does your eye travel next?

What shapes do you see?

What does it remind you of?

I love painting abstracts because I don't start with an idea of what I'm going to create.

I play.

I add colour. Make marks. Cover things up. Add another layer. Turn the page around.

And around.

And around again.

With this one, eventually all these wonky hexagons and pentagons started speaking to me.

Then I added pieces of sheet music and suddenly the whole thing went in another direction.

The shapes became almost like musical notes, with black and white Posca marks creating lines, bars and rhythm across the page.

And Musical Geometry emerged.

That's what I love about abstract art.

You don't need to find THE meaning.

You get to find YOUR meaning.

So I'm curious…

What do you see when you look at this one?

A woman's quiet rebellion!

I feel like I am getting less quiet these days and feeling like it is.

You don't have to be artistic to make art. You just have to be willing to begin.

"I can't even draw a stick figure."

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that, I'd have a very impressive art supply collection.

Somewhere along the way, many of us decided that making art requires talent.

That before we pick up a paintbrush, we should already know what we're doing.

But that's not how creativity works.

Nobody starts as an expert.

Nobody begins with confidence.

Nobody creates their best work on day one.

Every artist, every creator, every person who has ever made something beautiful started in exactly the same place:

At the beginning.

The women who thrive in my classes aren't necessarily the most artistic.

They're the ones willing to be curious.

Willing to experiment.

Willing to try.

Because creativity isn't about getting it right.

It's about showing up.

What is something you've been wanting to try but haven't started yet?

There are only a couple of days left of school which means:
a) you might be looking for something to keep the kids busy
b) you might be looking for some "me time", or quality time with your partner or friends while someone else is keeping the kids busy.

Either way, I have you covered. 😉

I have a few school holiday art sessions coming up

🎨 Tuesday 29 September 10am or 2pm
🎨 Wednesday 30 September 10am or 2pm
🎨 Thursday 1 October 2pm

These aren't sit-down-and-copy-my-picture classes. They're relaxed, intuitive, mixed-media sessions where you get to experiment with different supplies, make some happy accidents and create something that's actually yours.

And yes, mistakes are encouraged.

Purple has always felt a little magical.

It's imagination, wisdom, creativity, intuition, and mystery all wrapped together.

It's the colour of dreams, possibilities, and ideas that haven't quite landed yet.

💜 If you could spend one day living inside a purple world, what would you be doing?

Creating?
Exploring?
Resting?
Learning?
Daydreaming?

I'd love to hear your answer.
