For whom, and why did Patanjali offer the 8 limbed practice of Yoga? Though often quoted, most do not know why Patanjali presented his famous 8 limbed path, or to whom. Furthermore, what was he responding to; and what, if anything, does it have to do with modern yoga practice.
We investigate all the above and more in How To Know Bliss - a deep dive into yoga’s rich history and philosophical traditions. Our next course begins February 20th, 2026. Places are limited. Find out more in the link in our bio or athttps://www.melbourneyoga.academy/shop

Back from 10 days of meditation I’m floating in the vibrations. So many deep learnings. I’ll be sharing some of these in out next course - How To Know Bliss. Although Vipassana is a Buddhist technique we use traditions like this and others to provide the background, and counterpoint, to the problem Patanjali was addressing in the Yoga Sutras. PS. Although our early-bird price ended November 30 I have decided to keep it for another week. Blame all the metta (loving kindness) vibes floating around.

One of our favourite translations of The Yoga Sutras. Highly recommended reading for anyone interested in yoga’s earliest systemisation; a text that covers in detail, the “why” of yoga, as well as the “how.”
A lot of people struggle with this text, mainly because the author, Patanjali, assumes the reader is already familiar with the cosmology of Sankhya and with the concept of karma. It is because of this that we created our short course, How To Know Bliss. In the course we give you the background knowledge to be able to unpack the sutras. It’s a truly mind-bending course. Details in the link in our bio.

Brāhmarī Prānāyāma, also known as “Humming Bee Breath,” is a calming and meditative breathing technique from yoga.
The name comes from the Sanskrit word bhrāmara, meaning “black bee,” because the practice involves creating a low-pitched humming sound on the exhale, which resembles the buzzing of a bee.
This practice is highly regarded for its ability to soothe the nervous system, quiet a busy mind, and promote a state of deep relaxation.
