The time has come for me to say goodbye to everyone that has ever supported me or allowed me to become apart of their children's lives. After 4yrs my doors have shut this week and unfortunately due to the recent lockdowns, I didn't get to spend as much time with everyone as I had planned to when I first announced that I would be closing.

I would like again to thank everyone for their support and warm wishes and I look forward to seeing everyone as soon as these lockdowns are over..

It is with a sad heart that I have made the difficult decision to close down my service.

I have had many sleepless nights trying to work out just what to do to keep helping my amazing families, their kids but also what is best for my family plus myself.

I am sorry that I have to let my families go to other carers and would like to thank them all especially the ones I have had enrolled, for the last 3.5yrs since opening my doors.

My decision was based on the unfortunate decline in the need for After School Care and the fact that when positions become available, I was unable to fill them. Which meant my business was not financially viable anymore.

I will still be around the community and look forward to seeing everyone when I pick up my own children from school.

With my last day being the 4th August 2021, it is then my time to finish my UNI degree, get back to working in a child care centre setting so that I can continue to work towards achieving my own dream.. Hopefully working and providing care for our amazing community just on a bigger scale.

It might be a gloomy day outside but our afternoon tea platter is nice and colourful....

We have our homegrown tomatoes and snap peas adding some bright colourful cheer..

All children who attend have their own personalised cup to ensure no cups are shared, good for our environment with no throw away cups being used plus a good resource for our smaller friends to practice their name recognition skills..

Happy Monday!!

Here at Alana's Family Day Care we love playing board games. With the weather getting colder we are
spending more time inside, especially in the morning.

On Tuesday morning we decided to play a game of Monopoly. Whilst, we taught our younger friends how to play... it made me aware how many educational benefits the good old fashion board game had.

These benefits include;
Teaches the basics of money management.
Enhances cognitive development.
Develops key decision-making skills.
Introduces the concept of money lending.
Boosts mathematics ability.
Develops effective negotiation skills.
Cultivates a positive attitude towards money.
Develops the importance of being goal-oriented.
Enhances the ability to deal with adversity.
Teaches effective budgeting.
Enhances executive function skills.
Promotes family bonding (bridges the generational gap).
Teaches the concept of not putting all your eggs in one basket.
Helps to develop patience.
Boost concentration skills.
Provides an alternative to a time out.
Teaches the art of graceful losing.
Is a healthy way to pass the time (keeps kids out of trouble).
Teaches how to invest sensibly.
Acts as an equalizer and boosts confidence.
Is entertaining as well as educational at the same time.

Unfortunately we didn't get to finish our game as we had to leave for school.

This week we embraced Reconciliation throughout the service. With many of the children having a sound knowledge of what Reconciliation meant it was fantastic that we were able to build upon that prior knowledge.
One of my favourite activities throughout the week was when we read Warnayarra the Rainbow Snake. After exploring both the visual and text elements of the book, our snakes Sally and Sam became popular.
Children used the tongs to decorate the snakes in rainbow patterns, create snakes that were just one colour or use no colours at all.. This activity also encouraged some of our younger friends to strength and practice using their fine motor skills by squeezing the tongs to control the colour balls.
As a follow up next week, I look forward to creating our own Warnayarra..

Today marks the end of accreditation for Wollondilly FDC. Lucky, unlucky I was chosen as one of the four educators that they visited.

On Wednesday, they showed up with 45min notice.
Was I nervous, absolutely but also excited to see how I was travelling as a FDC educator.

Lucky all went really well and we look forward to receiving our results in the next few weeks. So very thankful that upon my visit I had the consent support of the office and its staff.

Must admit I am happy it is over.. Fingers crossed for a exceeding result so we don't need to do it again for 4yrs..
