On Saturday, 29th August, two Wilsonton State High School students, Arlia Schefe (Year 12 School Captain) and Patricia Samson (Year 11), competed in the Lions Youth of the Year Competition.

They had to fill out a paper application, then were interviewed by a panel of four judges, asked two impromptu questions in front of an audience, and then performed a five minute speech in front of the same audience.

Both ladies answered the impromptu questions well and had fantastic speeches that were very well delivered. Arlia’s speech was titled ‘The Silent Battles People Fight’ and Patricia’s was titled ‘Bullying’s Lasting Wounds: The True Cost in Mental Health’.

Congratulations to Arlia for taking out the Public Speaking Award and the Overall Winner Award. She now moves onto the regional section, that will be judged on 7th March next year. Good luck Arlia!

🏐 Last Friday, 28 August, Wilsonton’s Mixed Netball Team played against Harristown SHS in the Grand Final of the Interschool Netball Competition.

Both teams played spectacularly and were not giving an inch to either team. Their defensive skills, along with their attacking efficiency, saw the entire game deadlocked, with extra time having to be played.

At the end of extra time, Wilsonton walked away with the win, 27-25. It was fantastic to see great sportsmanship both on and off the court.

We can’t wait to see what next year’s competition brings! 🎉

With the arrival of lambing season at the Ag Plot, some of our ewes need a helping hand, and our students are only too happy to help.

Bottle-feeding the babies has quickly become a highlight of practical Ag lessons, providing plenty of opportunities for students to learn about animal ethics, hygiene practices and animal welfare.

📚🏆 Year 7 2027 Scholarships Now Open!

Wilsonton State High School is offering a range of scholarships for students commencing Year 7 in 2027 who are exceptional within the Academic, Sports or Performing Arts fields or all three (All-Rounder).

Scholarships available:
• Academic Scholarship ×2
• Sports Scholarship
• Performing Arts Scholarship
• All-Rounder Scholarship ×2

All scholarship recipients will receive:
• 2027 Student Resource Scheme contribution ($120)
• WSHS formal and sports uniform
• WSHS track jacket
• Stationery pack

What a fantastic week of science at Wilsonton State High School!

National Science Week was packed with curiosity, creativity and discovery as students took part in a range of hands-on activities that sparked imagination, encouraged problem-solving and brought science to life.

It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved, asking questions, trying new things and having fun along the way.

Friday night saw the final game of the inter-school netball competition, with Wilsonton Girls taking on Harristown Mixed. Both teams dug deep, with this game deciding who would progress to the Grand Final.

Whilst the girls demonstrated great defensive and attacking skills, it was a few minor setbacks that unfortunately went against them.

The girls also showed great enthusiasm and support for a wonderful cause, Red Nose Month, raising awareness for children who have sadly passed away from SIDS/SADS by wearing red. They also demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship both on and off the court. Great work, ladies!

Congratulations to Wilsonton’s Mixed Netball team, who have made the Grand Final this Friday. Good luck! 🎉🏐
