Koala Cottage Childcare is a long day care centre catering for children aged between 2 and 6 years. We are a family owned and run centre which strives to provide a high level of care and education. Children are provided with healthy and nutritious meals that are prepared on site. The educational program within the centre stems from the observed interests of the individual child which makes learnin

g interesting and fun. Indoor and outdoor experiences cater to the development of the whole child. The program allows for children to be creative through art and craft, music and movement, while also catering to their cognitive development through language and literacy. The experiences that are offered throughout the day invite intrigue and investigation and are based on a hands-on approach to learning. This supportive and nurturing environment encourages confidence within the child to explore, achieve and develop in their own time and in their own individual way.

Exploring Real World Science. After seeing sandbags used on the news for Cyclone Alfred, our curious learners wanted to know how do sandbags stop water? Through hands on learning play, they experimented with different materials, observing how sand absorbs and redirects water. This real world exploration fosters critical thinking problem solving and deeper understanding of the world around them. Learning through curiosity in action! # STEAM learning

Our children have been very interested in baking since last week. This started from the cookbook that we added in our kitchen corner and requested to bake chocolate cake - which we did! They names the ingredients, steps, and timed how long it needed to be in the oven. To extend this interest and learning in our families’ homes, we have prepared the dry ingredients for Apple-Banana Oat Muffins to take home, the recipe card, and some tips to engage the children. This would just need some basic pantry staples and would be ready to bake. We are sure that they would enjoy this healthy bonding activity with their little ones! ☺️🧁

Today, we had a minibeasts drama incurson. Our children learned about different garden insects, both on and under land, their diet and habitat. Science and nature cross over dramatic play as they play different roles of an insect and went around the garden, looking for food and avoiding their predators. We had dragonflies, rolly pollies, ladybugs, spiders and grasshoppers. 🦋🐞🐜🦗🕷️One fun fact that our children loved to reenact is that when ladybugs feel threatened, they play dead and lay on their back with their arms sticking out.

Our children made a cozy “bed” for them to rest on and for their new friend who just started with us, showing him what quiet time looks like. “Relax your body and read a book”, one of our preschoolers said. As their new friend laid down and started to relax, she fixed his blanket and read him a story. ❤️🥰

Our sunflowers have grown and bloomed, but one got broken from the stem because of the gusty winds. 🤔💡 Still life drawing!!! We placed it as a centre piece in our arts and crafts table and I invited the children to draw it. No rules, just draw what you see. Instead of being directive and closed ended, I asked them about the texture, the parts of the flower, and invited them to smell it. Here are a few samples of children’s artwork.
