📚 HISTORY WEEK 2026 | KEEPING STORIES 📚
5–13 September | Term 3, Week 8

History is more than dates and old photographs. It is the people, places, memories and stories that help us understand where we have come from and shape where we are going.

This History Week, we are celebrating the history of Willmot and Willmot Public School by sharing a question each day! 🏫🏡

Each question will explore something from our past – from the history of the Willmot suburb, to fascinating stories from Willmot Public School. And yes… we have uncovered some very interesting stories along the way! 👀🐾

🤔 Think you know the answer? Have a crack!

We would also love our families, former students and community members to share their memories and stories in the comments. You might remember something that isn't written in a history book but is an important part of our school's story.

📅 A new question will be posted each day.
✅ The answer will be added in the comments for that post on the following day.

So, get ready to test your knowledge, ask your family, share your memories and help us keep the stories of Willmot alive!

The first question will be posted later today!

❤️ Happy History Week, Willmot!

🎉 Literacy and Numeracy Week – Friday: The Everyday Challenge!

We’ve made it to the final day of Literacy and Numeracy Week 2026! 🎉

Our message this week has been simple:
💬 Every word matters.
🔢 Every day counts.

Today, we challenge families to find 10 minutes for literacy and numeracy.

📚 10 minutes of Literacy:
Read a book, tell a story, write a shopping list, play a word game or ask your child to tell you about their favourite thing.

🔢 10 minutes of Numeracy:
Count, sort, measure, add, subtract, look for shapes or play a maths game. Students will be bringing home a packet of cards for the famly today for some fun maths games.

The important thing is that children see literacy and numeracy as things they can use, enjoy and practise every day.

Thank you to our Willmot families for helping us celebrate Literacy and Numeracy Week! ❤️

Every day counts. Every word matters.

🛒 Literacy and Numeracy Week – Thursday: Maths at the Shops!

Next time you go shopping, take your child with you for a little real-life maths challenge! 🛒🔢

Ask them to:
💰 Find two items and add their prices together.
💰 Which item costs more?
💰 What could you buy with $10?
💰 If you had $20 and spent $7, how much would you have left?

📚 Literacy Challenge:
Ask your child to find a word on a packet that they don't know.
Talk about what the word might mean.
Can they use the word in a sentence?

Literacy and numeracy are everywhere — even hiding between the cereal and the toilet paper!

📖 Literacy and Numeracy Week – Wednesday: Story Time Challenge!

Tonight, read a book together, tell a story or even make up your own! 📖❤️

📚 Literacy Challenge:
Stop during the story and ask:
➡️ What do you think will happen next?
➡️ How is the character feeling?
➡️ What would YOU do?
Then make up a silly ending!

🔢 Numeracy Challenge:
While reading, look for numbers.
How many numbers can you find in the book?
Or count:
➡️ How many characters?
➡️ How many animals?
➡️ How many pages?

Reading, talking, counting and laughing together — that's sounds like a lot of fun!

🧦 Literacy and Numeracy Week – Tuesday: The Sock Challenge!

Who knew putting away the washing could become a maths lesson? 😂🧦

Today’s Numeracy Challenge is simple:
🔢 How many pairs of socks do you have?

Ask your child to sort the socks into pairs. Then work out:
➡️ How many pairs?
➡️ How many socks altogether?
➡️ Are there any lonely socks? 🥲

📚 Literacy Challenge:
While you are folding the washing, choose one item and ask your child to describe it using 3 interesting words.

For example:
👕 “The shirt is blue, soft and enormous!”
Encourage your child to use words that tell us more.

Who said laundry was boring? 😆

🏊🏊🏾💦Swim School💦🏊🏾🏊

Just a reminder to all families that swim school is on this week.

Students participating in swim school need to come to school at normal time to participate in class before (and after) the swim school program. Swimming costumes need to be worn under their school uniform to maximise pool time.

Please ensure students have the following packed each day:
👉A rash shirt is recommended to be worn for protection.
👉A towel and a change of underwear.
👉Your school jumper.
👉A plastic bag for wet clothes.
👉Googles are optional.

Please remember:
💧Students need to bring a water bottle to school.
🍎Students are required to bring their own recess to school, as they will be having recess outside of the normal recess break times.
❌There is no access to the pool canteen.
🥪Students will be back in time for their normal lunch break, so can either bring their own lunch or have a (pre-ordered) lunch order from the school canteen.

⭐⭐PSA Schools Recognition Week 2026 ⭐⭐

Each year, the Public Service Association (PSA) invites school communities across NSW to celebrate the contribution school support staff make to the success of public education and the wellbeing of students.

This year's theme, Thriving Schools Start With Us, recognises the vital role played by School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS), General Assistants, School Psychologists, Student Learning and Support Officers, Aboriginal Education Officers, Community Liaison Officers and other support staff in helping schools thrive.

Without these members, our school simply would not operate.

Whether working behind the scenes or directly alongside students, our school support staff are essential for every school community.

PSA Recognition Week provides an opportunity for parents, students, and the broader school community to acknowledge and thank these dedicated professionals for their commitment, expertise, and service.

On behalf of the Willmot school community, we say a big thank you to our school support staff for all you do!

📚🔢It’s Literacy and Numeracy Week 2026! 🔢📚

This year’s theme is:
💬 “Every day counts, every word matters.”

And we mean that quite literally! 😄

Literacy and numeracy are not just things we learn at school. They are skills we use every single day, and this week we'll have some challenges for everyone!

🤔💭Literacy & Numeracy Week - Monday: The Number 6️⃣7️⃣ Challenge!

🔢 Numeracy:
Today we have a very important question…
How many 6️⃣7️⃣s can you fit in a 6.7cm x 6.7cm square?? 🤔😂

Grab a piece of paper, measure out a 6.7cm square and start writing:
67 67 67 67 67 67 67…

Count how many you can fit in the square.
Can you fit 67 of them in the square?

📚 Literacy:
Now write a sentence using 67.

Because literacy is about more than spelling words correctly — it is about having fun with words (and in this case numbers) and sharing ideas!

👑🐷 BOOK WEEK 2026 – KING PIG 📚🎶

All hail King Pig! 👑🐷

Today’s story is King Pig – a funny tale that gives us plenty to think about when it comes to being a good leader.

Being a king might sound wonderful… but being kind, fair and thinking about others is much more important! ❤️

Books give us opportunities to laugh, learn, wonder and see the world from someone else's point of view. That is the magic of the Symphony of Stories! 🎵📖

Don't forget that our own Book Week celebrations are coming later this term at WISH Day, with our Book Character Parade and Book Fair.

We can't wait to see which characters will arrive at school! 👀📚🎭
