What your child eats before school turns up again at 3pm 🧐

I asked our naturopath a question every parent asks me: 

which foods actually help my child focus?

We’re not a perfect-eating house. 

I won’t pretend we are. 

This was never about cutting out everything they love. 

It’s about a few small swaps that still feel like a treat

and helping our kids understand WHY we choose them.

None of this happens overnight.

It’s slow going and some days the cereal still wins.

Even though it was purchased as a dessert… 

A calmer, more focused child is worth it…

and the sooner they learn why it matters, the more it sticks.

Focus isn’t built in one place.

Save this for your next shop and tag a mum in the thick of the 3pm witching hour.

Teaching your child the alphabet?

This is the easiest mistake to make.

Think of the alphabet chart on the wall.

‘a’ is for apple.

So when it’s time to teach letter sounds,

we point to it and tell our kids that a makes the

sound at the start of apple.

Nothing wrong with that on its own.

Here’s where it gets confusing.

Look at the very same chart,

or any book on the shelf

and the letter a is everywhere it “shouldn’t” be.

The /a/ sound in crayon.

The /a/ in grasshopper.

The /a/ in watch.

Even the /a/ in banana.

Not one of those is the /a/ as in apple sound

your child just learned 🤯

So the moment they meet a in a real word

and it sounds nothing like the /a/ in apple…

they don’t think “ah, this letter must make more

than one sound.”

They think they’ve got it wrong.

That moment is where a lot of spelling struggles

quietly begin.

The truth is a letter doesn’t make just ONE sound.

It shifts depending on the word it’s sitting in.

Teach a like it only ever makes the apple sound,

and you’ve accidentally set your child up to be

thrown by half the words they’ll ever read.

Honestly, both are true at once.

I’m so grateful for what we’ve built...

and still amazed some days that I got through the call at all.

At the end of the day, this business has always been about making kids feel seen, supported and safe enough to grow.

To give them that, there’s a lot of juggling happening behind the scenes you don’t always see.

& sometimes it looks exactly like this.
