4 months now since Sancho (Pure Andalusian gelding) became our newest family member and what a magnificent boy he is turning into. I don't think I could love him anymore than I do right now π
He has recently had almost 5 weeks holiday to help him recover after healing from some nasty internal ulcers and a $4000 operation to remove a constantly weeping ear tooth.
During his holiday we allowed Sancho free rein of our property from 8am to 4pm which was the BEST decision we could have ever made. This gave him the choice of where he would like to graze, what path to take in and around the buildings and navigate some of the obstacles that were in his way as he moved from paddock to paddock. This has given him a barrage of confidence like you wouldn't believe π
The roundyard and day yards have always caused him a little anxiety, as has not being close to another horse but now he chooses to graze in the roundyard and happily stands in the open day yards to nibble on a haynet without a horse or human anywhere near him.
He can often be found way out the back or side paddock without a horse in sight happily grazing in his own little world π
Sancho has come back into work embracing every training session with enthusiasm and great calmness.
He happily stands at the rail quietly and respectfully to unrug and rerug, groom, trim feet, saddle and bridle which is a MASSIVE improvement and just last weekend he attended his first pole clinic and was handled by one of my dear friends Sharron Heywood who Sancho had never met but in true Sancho style he was the model student and my demo horse at times π©΅
Today was our second ridden training session since Monday and what a fabulous ride it was. He was soft, willing, compliant, relaxed and showed huge confidence in everything I asked of him, I am over the moon with this beautiful boy right now πππ
