🦘LEARNING TOGETHER 🦘

In July, we invited the team from Milliyaan Aboriginal Services to support and guide the children and families at Willetton in learning about the flora and fauna in our community. We learnt how to make animal tracks and Cyril patiently taught us the Noongar names for each of the animals.

Building from this the children are now incorporating their new knowledge into their play and creating their own animal tracks and teaching one another the names in the Noongar language.

Friday, 31st July 2026, we said a heartfelt farewell to Nido as we begin an exciting new chapter under a different brand.

While it is difficult to say goodbye to a name that has been such an important part of our journey, the heart of who we are will remain the same. Our dedicated educators, familiar faces, welcoming environment, and commitment to every child and family will continue unchanged.

Although our name may be changing, our values will not. The care, love, safety, and support we provide to our children will always remain at the heart of everything we do.

Saying goodbye to Nido is hard but we are also grateful for the wonderful memories, relationships, and experiences we have shared along the way. Thank you to all our families, children, and team members for being part of this 10 year journey.

From the team at Willetton, this is not goodbye to our community—it is simply the beginning of a new chapter, with the same people, the same care, and the same commitment to helping every child feel happy, safe, and supported.

Monday, 3rd August 2026, we will begin our new adventure as Busy Bees at Willetton and we look forward to sharing the next 10years with this community.

🎒FIRST AID TRAINING🎒

Last week the team completed a First Aid and CPR refresher course as an important way to be reassessed in their emergency response skills and continue to learn together.

We invest in our teams' knowledge of safety and first aid to keep their understanding current and ensure they are able to respond to and manage first aid incidences effectively.

🌿🍂Collaboration with Educated by Nature 🍂🌿

We partnered with Educated by Nature for a professional learning night, centered on connection to nature, the mental and physical wellbeing benefits of nature play, and how we can offer natural elements as invitations to play for our children.

Trudi was excellent at combining child development theory with storytelling and experiential activies, with the educators completing a nature walk as part of the session. The aim was to support the educators to commence, reinvigorate and enhave our outdoor learning possibilites.

The educators were enthusiastic to attend the course, and had many great take aways we will be implmenting and incorporating into the learning provocations.

☄️Professional Learning ☄️

The team worked with the nursing and teaching team from Epilepsy WA to refresh their skills in understanding Epilepsy and Seizure First Aid along with emergency medication training.

This is vital training for our team to understand the complexities of needs for people experiencing Epilepsy and to best support children at our early school. Did you know 1 in 25 people will be diagnosed with Epilepsy in their lifetime?

Epilepsy WA was founded in 1963 and provides the widest array of epilepsy support services for the WA community.

📚 Infant and Toddler Literacy Learning 📚

Together we are learning to inteact with images in books, participate in shared reading and engage in language learning through imitating sounds and facial expressions.

Literacy for infants and toddlers in our curriculum is about shared understanding and recognising different ways to communicate and connect language with meaning. Mark making with toddlers brings to life their emerging creativity and self expression and supports them in learning that marks and symbols carry meaning.

🧠 Scientific Inquiry 🧠

Infants in our classroom are often experiencing and discovering about the world around them for the very first time. From leaves falling, birds singing, the joy of the wind, and trying to catch the ever illusive bubbles, science is possible to teach our youngest citizens.

Educators at Willetton intentionally plan for children to engage in research and scientific inquiry, fostering a love of learning and discovery.

🔍Harmony Week 🔍

Harmony Week is a celebration that recognises our diversity and is about inclusiveness, respect and developing a sense of belonging for all people. The main message of Harmony Week is that everyone belongs and this year we will reflect with the children on the theme 'We all have a role to play'.

During a previous project the children made a profound statement that reflected the message of what it means to belong perfectly - "Harmony is even if you are a bird with different coloured feathers, you can all live together"

We are looking forward to the children developing their skills and knowledge and sense of belonging as we explore this topic.

We wish our Willetton community a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. For those travelling over this time, be safe and enjoy the family time together. The children completed representations of what is important to them at this time of year and how many of them celebrate at home.
